dell 2005fpw

I'm now seriously considering buying the 2005fpw before I do though, I had a few questions.
I was looking at the apple 20 inch lcd which has the same exact panel inside, the picture looked amazing, should i expect that from the dell?
Also I read that the dell has some dvi issuse, or something with its display being too green.

Finally, how is the service at dell? Does anyone know from experience if they are good with returns etc.?

oh yea, the price for the dell right now is about 390. Do you think i could get it cheaper by the end of this month or so? ~ I need to save some money up 🙂

Thanks for any input you offer.

I have one, and it's great! Their service is great. Unfortunately because of me being picky, and some dead/stuck pixels, I returned 3 of these!! They did all 3 returns with no problems. I just kept using Dell Chat to do the returns, it was easy. I would recommend one, just don't be as picky as I was and you shouldn't have to return it!

I would get the 2405 it may be $300 more but 24 inch display is so much more impressive. I just gotta convince myself to hit the buy button.

I bought my first 2005fpw in Nov. of 04. Last April it started having some issues. On the right side of the screen it appeared to having some streaks (reminded me of wallpaper that had water run down it and then dried). Finally in June, thinking it wasn't going to get any better I got a hold of Dell rep and to make a long story short they replaced it with another monitor. The replacement was a Revison 2 and my original was a Revison 1. AFTER I was able to get in touch with a LIVE person (much of what they do is automated telephone responses) they did their best at resolving my problem. Can't complain in that respect. In July I started watching hot deals (building another computer), and waited till they had a end of quarter sale (Aug) and bought my second 2005fpw for $381.00. Have tested it out and it works fine.

IMHO

Dell sells a chit load of these and with numbers like that your bound to have some that have some issues. As each revision comes many of the problems that the previous model had were addressed. What is important to me, is the fact that you have a limited amount of time to send it back for replacement if it has issues AND the fact that the monitors do have a 3 year warranty. I would like to have a 2405 but can't justify spending $700 for an LCD...just me.

As far as ghosting and dead pixels or "green streaks" well, just haven't seen them.

Good Luck!!!

Just set up a 2005 for a friend.... fantastic monitor. I would have kept it for myself had he not taken it (thankfully, I don't need to spend the $$$).

I haven't even bothered setting up DVI with my 2005fpw. Swapped out the cheapass VGA cable Dell supplied with the cable from my old monitor (about twice the thickness) and it's good to go. From various posts in various forums, I fully expected analog VGA to result in crap quality and/or jittery pixels but nope; it looks fine. That's good because I don't have a DVI KVM 🙂

Mine is an A02 revision and it has some backlight leakage in 3 of the corners but no dead pixels. Rather than risk going through umpteen RMAs to get a model with no dead pixels and no backlight problems, I'm inclined to just keep this one.

How much time can elapse before dell will do an exchange.... i bought mine back in early august and i'm having some backlight issues

$390 is as cheap as you can get. Eaqrlier some deals was still over $400

I have the Dell 2005FPW, I think it's superior to the Apple 20"
There's no "Too green" issue I don't think

However this screen is a bit bright even if you turn the monitor brightness to minimum
If you get newer reversion such as A02 or A03 they should be rock solid already

Older ones seem to have some blacklight bleeding problems ocasionally

OK just bought one for 399 shipped.

Hope the one i get wont have any issues

By the way, how would you guys rate dell service, how are they for returns / exchanges. I was told the lcd comes with a 3 year warrenty which allows me to exchange for a new one if there is a problem.
Is this true, has anyone on the forums returned/exchanged theirs and was it without any problems.

Thanks for your replies.

There is a 3 year warranty, plus the 14 day policy which lets you return it for any reasons (i.e. dead pixels, backlight bleeding)

i receievd mine earlier in the week and so far i think it's a keeper. i downloaded dead pixel buddy and did not notice any dead pixels, no backlighting issues. i'm still trying to figure out that xfire website that people are using to check for wavy lines. i upgraded from an old CRT so everything is roses so far.

i received the A02 revision made from Mexico. one thing that bugs me is that i did not notice the composite input that i read about and the 2 USB ports on the right side wouldn't recognize my USB key. still i bought the panel for the visuals, so i don't mind the USB thing so much.

good luck with yours.

Did you use the factory USB 2.0 cable to connect the monitor to your PC?
Some highly sensitive USB devices doesn't work over poor quality cables or the distance of connecting cables. Without USB boosters USB has an extrememly short range.
