Hi, all. I recently purchased a Dell 20" 2005FPW, and am having a bit of problem.

I initially was getting these wavy scan lines on the left side of the screen, about 2" wide, and most noticeable with a dark green wallpaper. After doing some research here, I found a forum topic on how to fix this in XP by changing the Front Porch setting in nvidia's Advanced Timing from 3 to either 0 or 6. That solved the scan line problem on Windows desktop running in native resolution of 1680x1050.

Here is the thread for reference: http://forums.anandtech.com/messageview.cfm?catid=31&threadid=1810958

However, my problem is this...when I go into a game at 1680x1050 res, I get the scan line problem again. It's as if the Front Porch setting isn't being carried over to whatever game I go into. I've tried to create a nvidia profile for this, but there's no way I can tell to include Advanced Timing modifications into a profile.

My question is, is there a way to force the nvidia drivers to always use my modified Front Porch settings in Advanced Timing? Or has anyone else found a work around for this problem?

I'm running the monitor with the stock Dell DVI cables to a BFG 6800 Ultra O/C, and the mobo is an ASUS P4P800-Deluxe, with a 500 watt Antec power supply, P4 3ghz, 1 gig RAM, and using Forceware 84.21 drivers.

Thank you very much in advance for any help on this one!

This isnt a direct answer to your question but I too have noticed this when changing video settings in World of Warcraft on my 19" lcd dell monitor. When I changed the refresh rate option in the video settings from 60hz to 75hz it would do the wavy scan lines on the bottom left side of the screen. I had to change it back to 60hz to keep it from doing that. Hope this helps.

Gah! It never fails! As soon as you make a post you figure something out.

Turns out the nvidia drivers were remembering the Front Porch settings, but those settings are specific to each resolution. I had them set properly for 1680x1050, and the scan lines were gone, but the game I was testing with was at a max res of 1600x1200. I fixed the resolution in that game with a hack from the Widescreen Gaming Forum, thankfully. Now that game is working fine at 1680x1050.

However, I still have the scan lines in all other resolutions other than 1680x1050. After some testing with Front Porch, I can't seem to get the lines to go away in 1024x768, 1280x1024, or 800x600. Which would be the only other resolutions I would every use, I'd imagine.

So, I guess my question is now, would anyone know where or how I can find the proper Front Porch settings for the 2005FPW for those other 3 resolutions?

Thank you, and thanks for the response, AalexX136. :)

I don't have an answer for the front porch thing, however, I have the same monitor & have no problem w/ WOW running in 1680X1050... I haven't played any other game for a while, but my past experience tells me if you run your games in the same size as your desktop you will have less issues w/ them. I have this monitor KVM'ed to two rigs, one has a ATI X800XT 256 AIW & the other has a Nvidia FX5200 series Geforce. Both have updated drivers & no issues w/ WOW, or the desktop w/ both the game & the desktops @ 1680X1050/60hz.

Good luck & let us know how it turns out...
