I have an ATI 9800 Pro and I just got my 2005FPW in the mail today. Well I'm trying to hook it up using the DVI port on my computer (prior to this I was using the VGA port). I tried shutting the PC down disconnecting the VGA, and connecting the DVI but I don't get anything on the screen. If I plug in the VGA I get the bios and it goes to windows, etc. I used this DVI port to connect to a projector about a month ago and it worked.

Why doesn't my DVI port work?

UPDATE/Cliffs

2005fpw doesnt work in dvi mode but works in vga (no bios post or anything in dvi)
made sure i was selecting dvi-d on the monitor (2nd input)
tried connecting dvi cable box (comcast) and got an error saying it can't handle HDCP mode
tried two DVI-D cables

gonna buy a video card from best buy tomorrow so I can test this a bit more... but otherwise anyone have any suggestions? Thanks much for your help.

Yeah, then I got nothing. You are using the DVI cable that came with the Monitor yes? Because I have seen weird cases where that would cause a problem. Do you have another computer to check the monitor with to narrow it down to monitor or video card problem.

Hm.. this would indeed be strange, but I am using a different DVI-D cable.. I'll try the Dell cable real quick though for kicks. Unfortunately I don't have access to another computer w/ DVI right now.. thought I do have a cable box with DVI out that I've never used before... better not to play with that headache right now ;) I'll try the other cable now.

Alright so I tried the other cable.. same deal with that one. Also tried plugging in that cable box and the on screen display said: "2. DVI-D Cannot Display this Mode" I'm guessing it doesnt support the cable box.

I read something about performing a self-test on the monitor so I'll do that when I figure out how to.

Yeah the cable box isn't going to display because it will be HDCP protected. But that indicates to me that you don't have a bad monitor, since it displayed a message saying it can't display HDCP protected content. So I would guess the problem is with your DVI on the card. But again, without testing it on something else there is no way to know for sure.

You can send the monitor to me and I'll promise I'll keep it no longer than 2-3 weeks for 'testing' (and drooling) purposes only. ;)

pulsedrive pretty much walked you through everything I can think of. Without something else to check your videocard/cables against, you're in a pickle.

Best of luck!

Thanks for the pointers pulsedrive.

Haven't gotten it to work yet :( I'm gonna go out on a limb and blame my video card for now I guess.... but even so why can't I get 1680x1050 to show properly in VGA mode :-/

not offense

but regarding the green light on the monitor which denotes the number

is it at 2?

you gotta manually switch it to 2 with the first button on the panel

I gave this a shot no luck... Unfortunately, I don't believe that its a windows issue, wish I had another DVI device so I could test against it. Gonna go to best buy and get a video card tomorrow to see if its my card's DVI port (but I did use this DVI port with a projector a month or so ago and it worked flawlessly)
