I think my first post in Hot Deals... didn't see it posted yet in a search.

very nice
but if your a gamer, not too many games can be done at the widescreen resolution. so your better off with the 2001fp because a 4:3 ratio on the 2005 basically means your gaming on a 18" normal aspect ratio screen (or less)

but this will be great for movies
 
if you multiply out the pixels u got 1600x1200 vs 1680x1050..

would be nice if it was a 23 wide screen with 1920x1600 🙂

Good point. However, a lot of newer titles do support widescreen including UT2K4 and WoW...the two that I care for 🙂.
 
any body know what is goign to become of the 2001fp?

hopefully, the ws is not a replacement but an addition to their lineup.

The 1050 pixel vertical resolution makes it even more funky for game support. I've been futzing around with a 1280x800 (16:10) Gateway M505X. A friend of mine has a 1440x1050 Dell Inspiron 600M. Very few games bother to enumerate ALL DX resolutions, so it's 1024x768 for everyone, 1600x1200 for most, 1280x1024 with a weird pixel aspect ratio.

1280x800 ends up being rendered as a 4x3 window, so you can't see anything "extra," you just see everything stretched out. The same is likely to be the case for 1680x1050. What's worse is that, on 1280x800, I can render non-stretched 1024x768 and use MOST of my screen height. If your favorite game even has 1280x960 available, you're wasting a higher percentage of pixels than XGA on WXGA.

For gamers, 4x3 still rules the roost for resolution support. Then again, for gamers, LCD's aren't the optimal solution.
 
what kind of card do I need to use this thing? I don't think mine (nVidia Ti200) can do any funky 16x10 resolution.
 
I'm currently in Canada and since my monitor turns itself constantly off I need to replace it very soon.

I'd love the new Dell monitor but it is not available in Canada it seems. Does anyone know if Dell got a worldwide guarantee? Maybe I'll try to find someone to help me to import this monitor.

I'm kind of wondering the same thing. I have an AIW 9600XT, and though it doesn't list 1680x1050 as a supported res, I figure there must be some way of getting that resolution.

So far I've seen something about Powerstrip, but I'm not sure what else is out there.

Go into your NVIDIA Control Panel under advanced settings. Click "Change Resolutions". Click "Custom Resolutions". Now add the new resolution. Works for me on all sorts of funky resolutions.
