According to the specs., the response time on the 2005FPW is 12ms gray to gray.

The specification they give for the 2001FP is 16ms black to white to black.

It seems that the 2005FPW response time is actually no better (or maybe worse than?) the 2001FP. Do I have something wrong here or is Dell just trying to pull the wool over our eyes a little bit?

Thanks,
CxP

Its definitely not worse. I've not seen the grey to grey on the 2001fp, but they say black to black is 16ms. The 2005fpw is 12ms grey to grey and 16ms black to black, so it is as fast or faster. Also, the 2005 is brighter and has a better contrast ratio.

Cool. I'm still planning on getting a 2005FWP, I just wanted to see if Dell was playing with the numbers. It seems they're publishing the 12ms number to make people think the 2005FPW actually has a faster response time than the 2001FP...when it does not.

Well, it could possibly be faster. I mean, it is a newer panel, and it has better #s in other areas. But, I agree, it'd be nice if we could REALLY find out.

My 2005 comes tomorrow. hehe

it's impossible to tell a difference btw 16ms and 12ms...it's just bragging rights.

These numbers are completely meaningless when '12ms' panels are worse than '20ms' panels:

http://graphics.tomshardware.c...0041123/17_lcd-10.html

The move to 12 ms hasn't always been a clear success... the panel was slower than the Hydis(20ms!) over 60% of the use range

Until the manufacturers start giving us useful information, or 3rd parties provide it for us, there is not much we can do.

If you are playing a FPS like UT2004 and you are making sudden jerking movements then you will be able to notice a difference between 12ms and 16ms. Slight.... Yes.... but still noticable.

Please be sure to post your review/impressions of your 2005, Hikari! I'd like to hear what you think of it for general use and gaming. Any system specs you'd care to provide would also be appreciated. :)

I had this choice to make also.. I REALLY wanted 1600x1200 and figured widescreen gaming wasn't going to cut it -- odd high resolution on the 2005FPW, hence I went with the 2001FP.. What a beauty! :)
