Dell 2001fp users, gather around...

...For I have just joined your proud ranks and I am seeking wisdom and guidance. Iam, of course, using DVI and a radeon 9700pro.

What settings are you using for brightness, contrast ratio and colors? Are they just your personal preferences or do they carry more weight than that.

How do you adjust them? the hardware interface (OSD?OCD?) only seems to let me adjust colors.

I am very disappointed with the CD that came with it. It only contains a crappy manual, no utilities, no drivers (I download the driver from the website), nothing of interest...

Any tips, tricks and advices that do not fall into these sections are welcome.

PS: This monitor rocks.

I find mine too bright. And i'm fairly certain most users do as well.

My Samsung 191T was too bright as well,I lowered the brightness via OSD,since you`ve an ATI 9700 card you can also lower the brightness/contrast and gamma settings via ATI Control Panel in the colour tab,I`m sure you`ll find a setting that agrees with you.

I use 41, 46, 51 for red, green, and blue color settings. I use 50/50 for brightness and contrast. I'm using fx5900 w/ DVI.

I love the brightness. It makes the colors seem more vibrant, and is one of the reasons I wanted an LCD.

i got my 2001FP 2 weeks ago, and it's awesome. color clarity is excpetional. anyone know anything about gaming though? i had purchased this with the idea that the 16ms response time is good for gaming. i played CS, and when it's still, it's perfect. however, when i move my mouse, the images get a little blurry compared to when i used a CRT. it was a samsung 955df 19", but for some reason, it blurs or ghosts when i move around. i have this linked with a new rig. i have the 64-bit AMD, paired with a radeon 9600XT. i tried adjusting the v-sync and open gl settings, but still the problem is there. anyone have any suggestions about this? i had heard that quake and unreal t. were tested, and they played great, with no ghosting. i would think that counterstrike can handle this as well, but not sure. would love to hear any suggestions of any sort.

this is my first time posting here, and have been reading the forums for a little while now. some really good advice and opinions here when i have been reading. if anyone can help this first-time user, i'd appreciate it. thx.

was that wrong to start a thread while replying to a message? sorry. just wanted to talk more about the 2001FP mroe specifically and some of the issues and good stuff that users had to share about it. don't mean to tread in your waters. i still love the monitor. that's my 2 cents. and just read the review comparison with the samsung 213T. that review just encourages my purchase of the 2001FP. good stuff. holla!

I wasn't dissing you. I just don't want the thread to go offtopic. Since the issue you're bringing up doesn't really have much to do with this topic, and since you have started a thread of your own, well, you do the math.

That's funny, because it encourages me to buy a 213t.

I have just setup my new 2001fp (from the 25% off LCD monitor deal a few days ago. 😀😀)

I have a NVidia GF3 TI4200 video card (driver ver. 56.64) that has a DVI output, so I used that to connect to the LCD.
Used the DVI-D single link cable that comes with the LCD.
Used the monitor driver (dated Apr 8, 2003) from the cd.

Here are a few questions for you guys, (ie. I want to see if everyone is seeing the same thing):
- From the OSD (On Screen Display), the "Image Settings" is grayed out. Correct? Is it because I am using the DVI instead of the regular (analog) connection?
- From the Brightness/Contrast, only Brightness can be adjusted (0-100). Contrast is grayed out. Correct?
- From the Display Properties in Windows 2K Pro, I am using 1600x1200 resolutions @ 60Hz. There is no other choice for the frequency.
And the next best resolution (with a 4:3 ratio, same as the LCD screen ratio) is 1152x864?
I asked this because I am used to 1280x960 from my 19" CRT and it is not selectable any more.
- The DVI cable that comes with the LCD is DVI-D single link. Is there any reason to buy a new DVI-D dual link cable (~$50 from Fry's)? Does dual link cable improve anything? According to Data Pro - DVI info, it does have some improvements.

I love the 2001FP but just curious about the differences.

To GundamW,
60Hz is the refersh rate for most LCD.
The resoultions you can choose is a combination of monitor driver, monitor EDID and video card. I have ATi 9800Pro 256MB and nVidia 5900Ultra. The nVidia FX5900U is able to read the EDID and give me more reolution options like 1600x900, 1400x1050 and 1280x960. But ATi 9800Pro doesn't give these resolution options.
You could try ReForce, it can add more resolution options.
Dual-Link DVI cable is for LCD that can offer more than 1600x1200. You don't need it.

Thanks for the reply and the info.
I guess until I upgrade my video card, I am stuck with the 1600x1200@60Hz. No biggie.
I may give ReForce a try later. Right now, I don't have any problem.
I thought the Dual-Link cable might be able to give me more resolution choices (under 1600x1200). Guess not. No biggie. Save me $50.

What about the grayed out options from the OSD? Know anything about those?
