Dell 2001FP questions.

Hello all and Happy Holidays,

I just opened my new Dell LCD and have a few questions.

I notice I have 3 stuck pixels. Do they ever start working properly, or are they permanently stuck?

Also, I can see some of the "screen door" effect others have talked about. Is this something that's a monitor-to-monitor bases, or do just some people see and some don't?

Sorry to hear that you have 3 stuck pixels - (btw are you sure they arent just dust specks? I had several such dead pixels, until I discovered that they were just dust specks, and came off with a wipe cloth) usually gently massaging them with a soft cloth will bring them to life, but there are no guarantees. Where are they located on the screen?

I have heard about the screen-door effect of the LCD, and personally I dont see it unless I scrounge to about 6 inches to the LCD, and even then I need to focus my eyes really hard to see it - so I prefer not to 🙂. My viewing distance from the monitor is usually about 1.5 - 2feet, and I cannot see this effect at all.

Yuk, LCD! If i got an lcd I would do one of two things to it:
1] Sell it on ebay
2] If that did not work out, I would take an old Pentium 100 use photoshop on windows 95 to draw a Bulls EYE and make it full screen.
Then I would get a long extension cord and an open field. Go out in to the Field, set up the PC, put the monitor up high with the bulls eye takeing up the full screen. Next I would walk as far away from it and pull out my 44magnum and have fun.

Yes, I did check if they were dust specs, in fact I had one of those too.

I have one right in the middle of the screen, one in the upper left and one in the lower right.

You can try to rub out the dead pixel, might work, probably not. Especially since there's 3 of them. I had a 2001FP that I had to return due to a bright green dead pixel. You should RMA it if the spots bother you. Dell didn't give me any problems about it. You have to eat the shipping, though.

As for the screendoor effect, I noticed it, but only if I was really looking for it. After 2 days with it I didn't care anymore. It's a great LCD. For what it costs, I'd send it back and ask them to test the replacement.

Lead, the 2001fp is the most popular gaming LCD over 19" I've wanted it for a year it still hasnt been beatien except for its counterpart the 2005fp which is a widescreen version of it.

I had a 2001FP about 2 months ago. It arrived with a brown line on the screen starting above the power button and gradually fading as it went toward the top stopping about 3/4 of the way up. I called Dell and they had no problem sending me another one but they were out of them at the moment so I had to wait a few weeks. During that time I realized that I didn't like the LCD so I called and just returned it instead.

My reasons for not liking the LCD...

1) LCD lag. Yes, the 2001FP is the fastest 20" LCD out there but it still suffers from lag with fast moving video or gaming. There was a point in Half-Life2 where I was watching water flow by and it was all pixelated. I think that was the straw that broke the camels back for me and my 2001FP.

2) Price. My current monitor (a 22" Compaq P1220) was $250 on a deal. The 2001FP looks great, especially with text @ 1600x1200, but it's not $350 better and my CRT blows it away in colors.

3) Screen door effect. Not a major gripe but it did bother me because my desk is not very deep so I sit closer than most people.


Benefits of the 2001FP over my 70lb CRT...

1) Space, weight, and adjustability. The 2001FP is thin, light, and can be easily and quickly positioned.

2) Power. The 2001FP uses much less power and ran much cooler than my CRT.

3) Brightness & sharpness. There's just nothing better than razor sharp text at 1600x1200 when you're viewing web pages or working with office apps. I miss that but I'm usually using my lappy when I'm working.

4) No horizonal damper lines. Honestly I barely even notice them on my Diamondtron tube and even then only if I'm on a bright white background. But they are there and some people are bothered.

To the original poster, if you can't fix the stuck pixels I say return your LCD now while you're still under the initial satisfaction warranty. For $600 I would want a perfect screen and it would be worth it to me to pay the return shipping for a screen without dead/stuck pixels.

yes, the text on this thing is just AMAZING sharp - try loading up a PDF document in acrobat reader and you'll see what I mean...
