Dell 2001FP... little bit a somtinsomtin...

Weird title...

My new 20 inch lcd is pretty damn nice, only 2 bad pixels that show white on black and no white light problem. However, it has done this weird pixel dancing thing twice.
Pixels of a certain color will light up all over the screen. Red or blue colors will twinkle, litterally all over. It's only happened twice so far, but it might have something to do with the temp of the room. What ye guys thinks?

What were you doing when it happened? Can you reproduce it?

My 1901FP does a quick colorful light show when I open the nVidia control panel.

Well, it's doing it again now. In all dark colors, little red pixels are popping up everywhere. It doesn't look like it will stop doing it either.AHHHHHHHHHH! I'ver been usong it for about an hour and I just reset windows twice, and then it started.

Anybody else ever had this happen? Now if I send it back, I'll likely get a monitor with no pixel dancing, but lots of dead pixels and backlight problems.

I wouldn't spend that much on a monitor and live with problems it may be having, especially when you can return/exchange it. If Dell won't exchange it for a brand new product, return it and then buy a new one...that way you won't have to deal with a refurb model that may have pre-existing dead pixels.

are you using DVI?

i let my roomate use my 2000FP till i sell it and it is horrible when it is @ 1600x1200 @ 60hz on VGA

I have had my 2001FP for about a week. A couple days ago I got the "dancing pixels," red and green. Just did a reboot with no additional problems. Works fine otherwise.

Video Card is a Radeon 9800 PRO - DVI

Have you tried another videocard or system? Give that a shot, could be your videocard (although i've never heard of this problem before, but i would make sure it's the monitor and not the videocard/computer by just plugging it into another computer).

And that's just BS that we don't have the 2001FP up here in Canada yet. The first person to receive one that i heard was some guy at HardOCP (this was like MONTHS ago), and he was from Canada. But from the very first day that he got it, i was checking the Dell site for it and i didn't see it... and even now i still don't see it.

Yes its DVI on a 9800PRO. No, I haven't tried another videocard, but I've seen a few other people talking about this problem too. It might be when the powerbrick gets too hot because it seems to happen when used for over an hour.
But then why would turning it off and on fix that? (which it did)

Are you using a DVI KVM switch by any chance? My co-worker has his Apple Cinema Display (plasma) hooked up to a Dr. Bot KVM switchbox so he can use both his old and new machines from one mouse/monitor/keyboard.

Well, let me just say that Dr. Bot sux. Ever since he hooked it up he's had dancing green pixels on his screen. However, the dancing pixels only seem to appear in dark gray color areas on certain windows. Otherwise, they're usually not present.

No, no switch. DVI direct from 9800PRO.

I'm not sure if I want to get a replacement over this. I've read where a few other people have this problem with this lcd. It's Though for an $800 monitor, it should be perfect.

You might want to check the settings on your video card. One thing I noticed with my FP is when it first boots up I can see the "dancing pixels." It just happen! However the FP resets on it's own and everything is fine. Again I have only seen this problem at bootup. No problems during the course of game play(BF1942). Regular surfing and word processing are no problem either.

Also when the problem occurs, go to your desktop and right click, refresh and see if that fixes the problem.

I do not plan on returning this FP.

Mine does it soometimes after I reboot and its been on for a while, and sometimes just after more than an hour of use.

My monitor looks fantastic and barely has dead pixels or white light problems. But do you think this is something that over time gets worse, stays the same, or gets better?

I recently got a used laptop (dell latitude p3 500) that has the same problem. There are "dancing" pixels on the top right of the screen sometimes, usually only when viewing windows that scroll (web pages, pdf files, etc.).

I had the same problem with my ATI 9800pro and 2001fp. I would boot inot windows and there would be trails of twinkling red and blue pixels all over the screen. I went into the display properties>settings>advanced>options and checked the box to Reduce Dvi frequency on high resolution displays. I haven't had a problem since then.

FANTASTIC!! REYAL!!!!!!

I was actually looking at that box before, wondering what it did. I hope it fixes it.

Edit: I just wen't to set it, and it says it may cause problems basically, should I continue?

🙂

That's the type of message I got when I selected it. You should be ok to say yes. This option should clear up these issues.

Just a note:
I have the reduce dvi frequency on high resolutions displays checked.
I have the alternate dvi operational mode unchecked. This option is to help if you contiue to expreience further problems.

Good luck and let me know if it works.
