It's more than "just an inch bigger" -- the 2001FP has a native 4:3 aspect ratio as opposed to the 5:4 that the 19" probably has. . .

mine doesn't have a funky screen coating??

Comparing all three of the 2001FPs I have seen to an Apple Cinema display shows the difference. The Cinema Display looks like there is nothing between you and the panel. The 2001FP's anti-glare coating is clearly visible.

Have a 2005 that I bought before Xmas. Was undecided whether to get the 2001 or 2005. Did some intensive research on both of them and found poeple who have good and bad comments to say about both (more positive things said about either one of them than negative). The clincher for me was the wde screen. Does a fantastic job with games!!! Have no reservations about not buying the the 2001. Highly recommend the 2005...

Ghettocowboy, it's not the one inch that's important, it's the native resolution: 1600x1200 on the 2001FP, and still 1280x1024 on the 19", same as any 17". You don't really profit from a bigger screen with the same resolution.

The response time is definitely not better on the 2001. Either they are the same, or the 2005 is slightly faster; I don't see any ghosting on mine.

Anyone know what the response time is?

25ms or 16ms?

I've got the 2005fpw. It's awesome 🙂

Between it and my 1920x1200 15.4" laptop screen using a standard 4:3 makes everything seem squished and "boxy" I dunno.

I'm never going back to a 4:3 screen again 🙂

I just got off the phone w/ Dell CS and they credited the $20 difference (now $529) from when I purchased it Sunday night ($549).

Also, for those having questions regarding the difference between the Dell 2001FP and 2005FPW just do a forum search for either model and you will find threads that are dozens if not hundreds of replies long that review both models and go into great detail as far as the shortcomings of the 2005FPW. The subject has been beat to death here IMO.

Edit: btw... I ordered it Sun night and it'll be here tomorrow. Can't beat that!

Just to let anyone know a friend of mine bought this "2005" just b4 x-mas and the lcd had bleeding edge's, he called DELL and they gladly replaced it (WITH A REFERBISHED) after he called them and complained they said that they did what they could and could do nothing more. The next day he called for a RMA and sent it back. Hope you guy's dont have any of the luck he had!!!

By the way mine 2005fpd will be here on wednesday! LOL i hope i dont get the shaft like my friend did!

The coupon codes are here:

Hope this helps

If you search and read these forums regarding the widescreen (2005FPW), one of the things you'll learn as I did while reading is that while Dell has a 30 day satisfaction guarantee, after 21 days they use refurbs. first if they have them when replacing defective items. While they don't advertise that policy (for obvious reasons), they don't hide the fact if you ask them.

no discount on the 2005fpw, I wonder is it possible to ask them for the deal...

SB has (had?) it for $549. That's what I paid for mine last week. Should be here tomorrow!

And thanks for the info about the panel being an LG and the same as the Apple Cinema display.

in that vein why bother paying the ~$100 or so more for the 19" than for the 17". after all, you aren't getting any additional real estate by getting the 19". at least with the 2001 you're getting about 50% more desktop area.

Wow, whats with the fast shipping. I forwarded this deal to my parents, and they bought a 2001fp, but it won't ship till Monday. Oh, and taxes here in Texas were $43. I told them it was still a good deal (hope they like it).

I ordered mine last night! Very stoked considering I've been using a Samsung 19" CRT that I bought for $450 over 5 years ago. Why in the heck is my expected ship date 2/17 though? hellaweak

Keep in mind that the quoted 12ms for the 2005FP is actually 12ms grey-to-grey, 16ms black-to-white.

The only response time for the 2001FP that I can dig up just lists it as 16ms typical.

I know what you mean about the fast shipping. Maybe they recently became aware of NewEgg's incredible and unmatched shipping service and are seeing if they can match/top it. Fat chance. And I've never read where Dell charges tax on their Home and Home Office side, but I guess so come to think of it with one of their warehouses being in Carrolton, TX. Bummer for you...but still a good deal.

Shipping update:
They sent it via DHL ground and when tracking it the web site states Est. Del. Date as 2/9, but I just got off the phone and the CS lady at DHL said it wasn't in town yet and that ground isn't guaranteed with DHL and that it could be tomorrow or Fri. Great...

It arrived on 02/10. This is one fine display.

I went from a Planar 191PX 19" LCD to this one and it was a definite upgrade. Using Display Mate I could find no dead pixels, and I don't see the screen door effect that people refer to, nor is there any back light leakage occurring. I know that mostly is a problem with the 2005FPW but I thought I let you know it's doesn't seem to be with the 2001FP. The blacks are blacker, the whites are whiter and and the colors are deeper and more vibrant than the Planar by far. I've not played a game w/ it yet but my Planar worked well for games with it's 25ms response time so I'm expecting at least as much out of this 2001FP with it's noted 16ms response time.

For those that don't think it's worth going from a 19" to a 20" LCD this former 19" user will tell you it's a definite upgrade. Whether you already own a 19" LCD and are thinking about going to a 20" or you are buying your first LCD and are wondering if the price difference between a 19 and a 20 are worth it. IMO...it is!

what in the hell. i just got mine today and just about the entire left side of the screen is white.... i guess backlight leakage? this is horrible. what do i do?
