Hey guys i'm trying to decide which pc to buy. It's either between a dell for $750 with a 2.4 and a ati 9800 or an abs for $720 with a 2.4 and a 5200. The abs also has the p4s800 motherboard which uses the sis 648 chipset. Other than the video card and the motherboard they are about the same. What the abs does have that the dell does not is that it can be overclocked.

I don't know if the SiS chipset has AGP\PCI lock. If not, don't expect a sizzling overclock out of it. I'd just spring for the Dell, or get the absolute cheapest video card in the ABS, then upgrade it.

Even though it may be the better deal now what about future upgrades? Dell is amazingly proprietary and in their machines basically only the Memory and some expansion cards can be upgraded.

Do you live under a rock? Dell's Dimension line has standard ATX case and PSU for the last year. IIRC, most people only upgrade their memory and expansion cards. But FYI, you can also upgrade the CPU.

Basically it comes down to this: Dell's hardware is superior (i865PE chipset vs SiS648 and ATI Radeon 9800 128MB vs GeForceFX 5200 128MB). ABS will hand you better tech support, because at that price, I doubt you're paying for premium tech support.
