Dell 1905FP Resolution Question

I just brought a new Dell 1905FP.

I know the native resolution is supposed to be 1280x1024 @ 60Hz, but I have found that at that resolution everything is too small to the point where I cannot read text on some web pages etc, without straining my eyes. So I adjusted it down to 1024x768 @ 75Hz and now everything looks bigger and readable and well, more normal.

But here is the bottom line...At both resolutions the monitor?s graphics, text and picture both are very clear! I had my wife here also and she does agree that at the 1024x 768 resolution she can't see any difference from the 1280x1024 resolution expect for the different sizing...

From what I have read, if I go down in resolution, things would not look too good, but we both cannot detect any differences in detail or quality of the text and images.

I am still using the same Dell computer that I bought 5 years ago.
I had been using the Dell 991 19" CRT Sony Trinitron @ 800x600.

For my Video card I am using a NVIDIA 64MB card that is about 5 years old. It does have DVI, which I am using for the monitor input.

I don?t play games so is this lower setting ok for text and graphics?

Also this is my first LCD display.

Any thoughts?

I?m wondering if I am missing something here with the new Monitor and that I should be running it at the higher resolution, but I like the Lower resolution better right now.

Thanks

If you haven't done so already, try the following: Set the LCD to native res (1280x1024); in Appearance - Display properties, select Large Fonts; in Effects, use large icons; In Display Properties - Advanced, select Large Fonts in DPI settings. In Internet Explorer use Large or Largest for the font size. Even with the LCD set to Native Res., you should be able to get most items large enough to be close to what you are used to. If not, then use a 1024 x768 and give up a little picture quality since the LCD is best at native res..

Thanks for the feedback...

Are these adjustments standard when making the jump from a 800x600 19" CRT to this type of LCD Monitor?

Also it does seem that there is no real loss of image quality going to the 1024 x768...At least not so far as we can tell...We don't game...just Surf and Office Apps etc...Pretty much standard stuff.

Oh I use Firefox as my Browser...

Thanks

Having to readjust everything is pretty much standard procedure for me anytime I get a new monitor. It is all really just a matter of individual preference. Since native res will produce the best picture, I would try that 1st. People I know run their LCD's at something other than native res because it is too small for them at that res.. I would say that if it looks good to your eyes, then run it at something other than native res..

Screen res and fonts I used on my previous 19" CRT did not look as good on my 19" LCD, so I had to make changes.
