Dell Home has the 1800fp for only $431 after the discount they are offering plus a coupon that takes an additional $45 off an order of $500 or more. Sweet deal, but the coupon is only good on 9-11 (Why Sep 11th, what a strange day for a one day coupon)

If you are getting a $423.20 price without a code, and the OP called it a $431 price with a code, why are you complaining?

Don't forget about the 20% off coupon for Small Business that expires tomorrow. That will bring the price of this to 339 plus tax. This makes it the most smoking hot deal ever on this monitor.

$339 for a Dell 1800FP LCD monitor?

Keep on dreaming :)
The 20% coupon doesn't stack.

Quote from coupon "One coupon per customer. One time use only. Cannot be combined with other Software & Peripherals discounts or coupon codes."

The 1800fp claims "no ghosting", would the 1901 doesn't quite say that - it claims 25ms response time. Would the 1901 be just as trouble free?

What is the purported response time on the 1800? I want to try a lcd and see if it can possibly replace my crts that I use for gaming. Any first hand experience on how much ghosting this lcd produces?

From what I have heard, the 1800 uses a different OEM supplier for the panel. The 1901 isn't as great as the 1800. The majority of people would say to get the 1800 if you do anykind of gaming or watch movies.

I was thinking about the 1901 because the idea of swivelling to the profile view for writing seems to make sense. Has anyone tried an LCD this way, and is it better than the regular landscape setup? Also is this done just through software or is any special card required? I plan to use the DVI output.

I bought a 1901 from the last deal a month ago. There is some ghosting in games, but it doesn't bother me most of the time.

hmsrolst, I like the rotation for writing and reading stuff, and the nvidia drivers have it built in (I think the ATi ones do, too) but I haven't found a way to make it automatically rotate the picture when I flip the screen (have to go display proterties->advanced->video card->NVrotate)

I have the 1800FP, using DVI, i play america's army, ut2003 and nfs hp2, i haven't notice any ghosting at all.

Reported response time is 30ms, but i have another 17" lcd next to this one that reports 25ms resp. time, and that one shows major ghosting just scrolling through a webpage fast.

There's a link somewhere about a LCD tester website, i went there and saw no evidence of ghosting at all in the "ghosting test".

I have both the FP1800 and the FP1901 from last month's deal. The 1901 is far superior to the 1800 in every way. Brightness, color saturation.

I have seen absolutely no ghosting in eiterh the 1800, or the 1901. But there again, I am using very high performance graphics cards.

My own opinion, by sitting here and looking at both, go with the 1901 without hesitation.

For price comparison purposes, there was a no-name brand of 18-inch LCD monitor at Fry's Electronics (seattle) for $379 each.

Pay no attention to this person, as he obviously has no clue what he/she is talking about. The graphics card performance doesn't determine if the panel will ghost or not. As a person who uses the 1800 at home, and the 1901 at work, the 1901 does show a fair deal more ghosting when compared to the 1800. Games on the 1800 are near perfect, but there is still a slight bit of ghosting. The 1901 does have some issues displaying grey/black. On the other hand, the 1901 is excellent for text/graphics.

Very good one. Got ths around 7 months back and have no problems in gaming with a MSI Ti4200. But the DVI output is a must. The VGA does not do that of a good job though you can work with it.
