Dell 1800FP LCD monitor?

I went to a computer lab today equiped with these lcd monitors. I used them for several hours and I was completely impressed. They were at 1280x1024 resolution at only 60 Hz but I had no problems looking at them and the display looked great.

What impressed me the most was the wide vewing angle. I could rotate it as far as I wanted to ieither side without any loss in color or brightness. It was even far better then my flat screen CRT. Even more, the quality was just as good looking from the top or the bottom. This amazed me as I regularely go to retail stores looking for their best LCD displays and they all loose quality from the sides and espetialy from the bottom.

I was wondering if this is a spetial LCD or are there other ones that are as good or even better. With the exception of this one, every LCD I have ever seen is a long way away from replasing my CRT but with monitors like this one, then I am willing to upgrade.

Thanks

I have the one up from that, the 1901FP. It is awesome, especially with DVI out. It's an amazing piece of machinery.

So is Dell ahead of the rest for some reason or do other manufacturers have such good lcds as well?

1800FP is made by LG (Lucky Goldstar). This is a very unique LCD in that regard that its specs are average, but those are just specs. When you actually use it, then you'll realize what a gem this LCD is and that specs don't always show the quality of the product.

I agree with LukFilm

I love my 1800fp. Picked up for $380. 🙂 When I have a bit more money, hope to replace my 19" Sony with a 2nd one.

I have seen the latest sonys, samsungs, necs and others at best buy with much better specs and several times more expensive but they in now way compare with this one. Are other LG LCDs just as good or are the dells special?

LG doesnt actually make them. Its technically LG-Philips who produce the panel (which is a joint venture). As to answer elkinm's question, yes other LG.Philips panels are this good, but they are generally hard to get in the US for some reason... Most of their sales are for OEM distribution through Dell or whomever.

Cheers,

Kristopher
