Dell Home has a pretty warm deal on the

UltraSharp 1704fp Digital 17" LCD

for $329 -30% off code -$30 off $300 stackable E&A Code = $200.30 w/free ship

BTW... this is a 16.2 million color and not a 16.7 million color monitor. I've never compared one to another. We're talking about roughly 3% difference in the number of colors that can be used out of a HUGE palette. Is it REALLY that noticable to a person who isn't doing match color printing work or the like?

Nice deal. May finally convince my parents to get rid of that huge 17" CRT that takes up their entire desk space. Personally, I'm waiting for anohter deal on the 2005.

Thanks!

i purchased mine from delloutlet when i bought a system a couple of months ago, i got mine for $179.00. Awesome flatpanel, and the adjustability is great.

The 16.2 mil colors is fake. its like 200 thousand colors that you actually get. The rest are "Analytically" calculated. Reviews say that the image quality as a result if VERY FAR from the 16.7 mill color LCDs.

Dang. Anyone want to buy some xbox stuff and a coppy o Mac OS X Tiger 🙂

I have a 1703 on one of my computers and would love to add another.

I own this monitor as it came with my XPS Gen4 tower...I have nothing but praises to say about it! The response time is amazing as I do not notice any ghosting in games. DVI/Analog inputs, 1280x1024 resolution, 6ms response. I do photowork on here and I like the picture quality better than CRTs I've used in the past. The unit is extremely bright and vivid...I actually had to reduce the desktop gamma down to .70, brightness on the LCD is 70 (no contrast setting available under DVI connections), for the Color settings on the monitor, I use 100, 100, and 92 for Red, Green, and Blue, respectively. The monitor out of the box is way too bright and the color settings stunk. It took a lot of tweaking and I hope some of you can make use of the settings/suggestions above.

I get a lot of compliments on my unit. Oh yeah, no dead pixels, either!

EDIT: I should mention mine is a 1704FPT...not sure if there's a difference.

great price...may order 2 of them...thanks ..this only has the DVI connector...is that correct...not to slag the deal here but it seems that Dell overprices these monitors after doing an Ebay search the regular price is $200 and under for a "buy it now' deal...

I just confirmed that this is the 1704FPT monitor on my order confirmation.
Thanks for the settings!

This monitor has both DVI and analog connections. Who wants to deal with eBay? Not I, sir. Check out the s/h + insurance requirements for those BIN deals. It's pathetic!

I placed an order for this monitor and later decided to cancel through chat. They even offered me a $35 coupon to retain my order.

Anyone ordered it should try to get a coupon.

Is this a good LCD for gaming??

It all depends if you notice any ghosting or not and if your GPU can push the LCD's native resolution. Ghosting is very subjective, which is where Dell's 30 no questions asked return policy comes in handy. If your on the fence, I'd say order it and try it out. If you don't like it, send it back. I *think* Dell even covers return shipping. I was in the same position when I ordered mine a while back and ended up loving it.

Did you do the online chat or through phone? How can I start a online chat? THX.

I just ordered the Samsung 730b deal from Staples and it'll be here Friday the 17th. Should I consider returning it to my local Staples and getting this instead? The Dell deal is a little cheaper and people apparently love the Dell monitor. Thanks!

I'm in the same boat as BPB. Haven't even opened the Samsung box yet. Should I just return it and get the Dell? It's only a $20 difference for me (after taxes), but I'm getting the impression that the Dell is a better monitor.
