Yes, I know that the film-makers and original novelist are intentionally vague as to whether the man/hunter they killed second was the toothless hillbilly that tried to sodomize Ed or an innocent hunter, but my question is: Are they the same actor? I never got the chance to compare their clothes or faces and such and the online descriptions purposely try to present it the way the film-makers did (not answering my question).

I have no idea, but damn, I felt bad for Ned Beatty's character.

Mountain Man: What do you want to do now?
Toothless Man: [grinning] He got a real pretty mouth ain't he?
Mountain Man: That's the truth
Toothless Man: [to Ed] You gonna do some prayin' for me, boy. And you better pray good.

Poor Ned Beatty. That guy can play in many of the classic movies of all time, and he will forever be remembered for that one scene.
