OMG you have *got* to see the thermite method of deleting data
[right after the "pool acid" method]
:Q

really!

cheap, easy to get materials - high school chemistry - and guaranteed *100% effective*
NO ONE will interfere with the reaction once it gets started :p

RotFL

the neighbors called the cops also - on me - i *was* a kid in HS when i tried it ... with Magnesium thermite ... lit about 2 square blocks up late at night ... brighter than day ... but i knew what to expect and had welders shades available :p

basically the magnesium oxide reacts at extreme heat with the Al to create elemental magnesium and that in turn burns white hot ... much better 'n fireworks.

[sorry no pics of mine] :p

and nothing was *harmed* in my old experiment ... except perhaps my neighbors' sanity who might have thought the aliens had landed

fortunately it is dead silent [except for a *hiss*] and the smoke blew away before they figured out *who* did it :)

[statute of limitation expired a LONG time ago]

this thread was *inspired* by a thread in Hot Deals .... i thought i should share here
Freeware file recovery applications

sorry - in advance - if it is a repost - [i know my expreience isn't] Search Sucks
[and i haven't been here in a long time ... good for you guys and gals]

it was my own idea back in HS ... ferric oxide is SO boring

and what you are left with is ... well rust to iron

otOh, using magnesium oxide gets you magnesium which is anything but boring at 3000*F

or so i reasoned

i hadn't figured on 'spooking' my neighbors :p
they didn't even know who ... although they were susicious

but the video reminded me of what i did ... so many years ago

you need at least 15 feet of *clear* around the site for about a pound of mixture ... and for god's sake use electricity to heat the igniter ... that stuff is *dangerous* and you do not want to be near it

it vaporized some of the concrete substrate

my parents also never found out ... they were at church that night

looking back - even though i made all the right preparations - it could have had tragic results
--my friends liked the show :p

anyway, i thought you'd like the video ... and it sure brought back *old memories*

AOTS is OK, but ScreenSavers was the best show ever.
