I do not go to "Adult" sites on my computer at work....no way since I work for a government agency at a senior high school. Recently I started recieving "pop-ups" (web page) for an "adult" web site on my computer. All the text is in german so I can not read anything. I have tried to find the problems with Ad-Ware and Ms Config. It seems that the pop up comes after my computer has been sitting for a while. Any other suggestions how to track down the culprit and kill it. I made the mistake of letting some of my studnents use my desktop computer. No more..... Any help appreciated thank you.

Free popup stoppers from ZDNet.com

or, when the popup occurs, use CTRL-ALT-DEL to get to the close program and see what is running. It may only say Internet Explorer (Win98). If you are running Win2000 or WinXP you can get the Task Manager from CTRL-ALT-DEL and see what is running. You can also select the processes tab, note the processes running, then close the popup and see what disappeared. Then you can do a search for it and delete it.

Also look for anything unfamilar in your add/remove programs and programs folder. Often times its installed via excutable which will give an uninstall option.

Sounds like you might be infected with VX2/Blackstone. That's not a virus, but a sleazy spyware program that sometimes other marginal programs install without your awareness (audiogalaxy did this for a while).

Check out this link for some info: POE. If you go to the forum link on that site and look through the old posts, much more nasty info about the mysterious, sleazy background of the VX2 company is revealed.

The latest version of adaware link by lavasoft can detect VX2 and other nasty spyware programs from your system. Even if it's not VX2 that's infecting you, I'm betting adaware will find something amiss on your system.

When you figure out what the problem program is, please post back here and let us know... I'm very curious.
