Deleted wallpaper still displaying during startup

Trying to clean up a work computer since I'm taking another job. I had some custom wallpapers stored which I deleted. When I go into the display properties, only the Windows 2000 Pro default wallpapers are available and none of the ones I uploaded.

However, whenever I reboot this computer, my previous wallpaper (photo of my dogs) displays while the desktop begins to load and services are started up. Once everything is loaded, the screen flashes and then the Windows wallpaper replaces the one of my dogs. It also displays for a few seconds when I'm shutting down.

Why does the previous one still show up for a few seconds and how on earth do I prevent that? I don't want my replacement really having to stare at my dogs for several seconds before the desktop fully loads.

For the most the wallpapers are in various locations and subfolders thereof:
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users or Other-Your Account\Application Data
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users or Other-Your Account\Local Settings
and default in:
C:\Windows\Web\Wallpaper
Check with your picture view programme if any file with known extension exists. I reckon you have turned off any wallpaper by right clicking Display, Properties, Desktop, Background? And I reckon that you searched also the hidden files and folders?

There's no trace of it within any of my Documents and Settings folders/files. Nor is it in the Windows wallpaper folder. I can't find it anywhere but yet it still displays for a few seconds during startup and during shutdown. During start up, it will display while my desktop icons are loading but once they have loaded and startup services are started, the screen flashes and then that wallpaper disappears before being replaced with the Windows one that is chosen in the Display properties.

Aha! Thanks for the tips. I didn't have hidden folders visible when I initially looked. So, I finally found the lone photo at C:>Documents and Settings>Application Data>IrfanView (my image viewer). Sure enough, there it was. Also stumbled across a lot of other long lost photos/images in my Application Data and Local Settings subfolders.

Thanks again...that did the trick!
