You know your life is pretty great when something as stupid as this is a major issue.

I don't recall seeing the term 'major' anywhere...just an irritation. Hell this is Anandtech...there's nothing 'major' on the entire site. It's hardware reviews and random internet bs. Just shooting the shit and increasing post count.

had an account for like a year, deleted my account before it was cool to delete your account :sneaky:

never understood why it is so popular, same for twitter, I guess I'm not really interested when people are having a dump or doing some update because they are having a latte

Anyone who makes fun of Facebook yet posts here regularly is a pretty big hypocrite. At least the people you're talking to on there could potentially be family members or friends who actually give a shit about you, unlike strangers on a forum.

Psh.. you can't lie about having a 10" wang, make $100k a year, and your great family, nor can you yell call everyone an asshole, socially-bully people without getting your ass kicked if people knew you. ATOT and anonymous internet forums. F*** ya!

AT isn't mining my personal data to sell to advertisers. They also aren't dicking with my profile settings, and releasing information I don't want released. I have as much control over my data here as can be expected using 3rd party hosting. The only way to be more secure is to host it on my own machine. That said, I'm happy with the control AT gives me.

Facebook is about to turn your social life into an online newspaper. That's the takeaway from a new slate of changes the company unveiled yesterday, ahead of its annual f8 developer conference in San Francisco. From now on, if you log in to Facebook after a lengthy hiatus, your news feed -- much like the front page of a daily paper -- will consist of a list of "top stories," photos and updates that were posted while you were away, with each high-priority item tagged with a blue earmark. More frequent users, on the other hand, will find a list of most recent stories presented in chronological order, along with larger photos embedded directly within their news feed. The company has also introduced a new "ticker" feature that provides users with real-time updates on their friends' activity, displayed along the right-hand side of the home page. Here, you'll find the exact same updates you'd see on a real-time news feed, with the crucial difference being that you'll be able to interact with each development without missing a beat. If you see that a friend comments on a cat video, for example, you'll be able to click that item in the ticker and add your two cents, without having to navigate away from the home screen. Facebook will likely provide more details on these new features at its f8 tomorrow, but you can find more information in the demo video, after the break.

i just want to see recent postings...not what facebook thinks my top news is...

I clicked on Recent Stories and all I get are recent updates, can't even figure out how to go back to Top Stories. Have opened other facebook tabs and all I get is Recent Stories.

Facebook is so far down the list of things I can think of to be angry about. I doubt I could scrounge up an ounce of care if it dropped off the face of the earth today (and I post a few times a week).

Just getting angry doesn't make something major. Hell I'm angry every day about something, doesn't automatically make it important.

As for caring at all, well, that's you. I probably post on it a few times per hour on most days. Like I said, it was the primary means of communication between friends and family now. It happens when the people you care about are spread all over the planet and you need a central place to exchange pics, happenings, quips, etc as a way to stay connected. Being stuck in a care providing situation that doesn't let you get out of the house much just adds to it.

Is it huge and life altering? No. But it IS irritating, and inconvenient, and will cause significant changes in my communication with the people I care about.

It now looks exactly like Google+ except with facebook colors. Why the need for the disparity?
