the first time i put in this modem, it said "where are your drivers". couldn'd find disk, so hit cancel

it installed its own drivers, they dont work

now i have right drivers, try to install them - "this file does not contain info about your hardware"

and everytime i restart or even remove the modem and try again, it automatically installs its wrong driver w/o even asking

how do i make it completely forget it was ever there?

Go into System->Hardware Tab->Device manager. Then go into the properties of the device, then under the driver tab of the device click "Uninstall Driver"...Also make sure you have the correct drivers. Maybe Xp's drivers are newer than the driver you have.
