Question: When Intel produces B3 (105W) in the month of June/July and the yields are good and the process has been refined, do they one day (i.e. July 14th) suddently start pumping out 95W processors?

It would seem logical that latest batches of B3s would have very similar characteristics of G0s and the only difference would be that their CPUID has not been changed to G0 yet. I would imagine as most B3s improve in transistor quality they start to approach 95W specs, and thats how new steppings arise (i.e. CPUID is switched to G0 stepping). Correct me if I am wrong? Under this assumption, any recent B3s should be just as good.....
 
I think I agree with the RussianSensation. After all, the changes in stepping are a refining process.
 
also, newegg ships from 3 different warehouses in CA, TN, and NJ.

if one has G0's and the others don't... it's still a crapshoot if you'll get one or not

B3 to G0 is not a process change but a layout change. Thus there is no "B3's performance trending towards G3's performance" phenomenon here. You either have the old layout (stepping, reticle, etc) or the new one, no in-betweens.

G0 is very likely a full mask stepping change.

You'll notice from Intel docs that numerous bugs have been fixed.

Usually the changes are tested in house and applied to "batches" of CPUs in bulk (which is what stepping actually are). This is why all CPUs of the same stepping tend to perform in the same similar range for overclocking and temps.

Your case would be seen in Engineering Samples (where small changes are made and tested), but not production CPUs.

Edit: im hoping for a G0 from zipzoomfly when i order tomorrow, anyone have confirmed G0s from any other merchants? Neweggs prices are retardedly high and i worry about getting a B3 from TN (where my stuff generally tends to ship from for newegg).
 
You can either preorder from tankguys, or clubit (by phone). I heard tankguys are recieving a shipment on the 6th that are a lot more than how many preorders they have. Clubit should have theirs by end of this month/early next month. I ordered mine from clubit.

Eh, im not going to wait for a G0, but ill at least take a stab at getting one now.

Even if i wind up with a B3 im on external watercooling, so ill shoot for 3.4.
 
NCIX has G0's available from what I heard, a couple people have recieved B3's but that was days ago, maybe check them again and check the comments.
 
guys, honestly, i dont think the G0's are truely worth it.

Why? because whats the difference between a 3.3ghz B3 vs a 3.3ghz G0. The heat output isnt significantly better, nor do you see any difference in performance.

Now, i know ive been going hail mary's about the G0, but i think my ES and all other ES's of G0's running around are just cherry picked. I have yet to see a retail G0 pull 3.6 @ acceptable temps while running bionic for long periods of time.


Now if you get a ES G0, like what i have, thats definitely a different story.

I'm in GA and I've gotten things from all three whse's. Every LCD I've bought came from CA, and cpu's/vid cards come from TN. If G0 were assured, I'd pull the trigger.

Another factor, resale value. G0 will fetch a tad more than a B3 when I go to sell. That ~$20 bucks matters to me. 😎
