I am like the fire department. I do nothing but sit around until there is an emergency.

can't say i've ever heard of this place. and monitoring is pretty boring, i'm sure you know what i mean.

using stuff like cisco works and hp openview to make sure things don't go down right?

and this is where i work (well, not overnight anymore). !

Yea, we monitor all the cisco stuff, 99% of the stuff I monitor is frame relay, so if there is a problem, we call att and tell em to test or go to the CO and fix it..
A couple of weeks ago a sewer pipe burst in a CO <central office> and there was literally sh1t all over their NIC's, routers, and stuff. Crazy eh?

I hate leaving work to go home to my suck a$$ dialup. Yea, i have plenty of time to read. I've never been big into online chat. We don't have AIM, ICQ, or anything else like that here. Our automation dept would have a fit if i installed it on the workstation. I'm not even sure it would work with the proxy server???...

yeah, i figured as much.

datacenters block off all the ports under the sun, but i'm sure they've configured at least a subnet/vlan that allows access outside to the 'net w/o goint through the proxy.

yeah, i was doing that online chat garbage... now that's a waste of time. :/ btw, AIM/ICQ can go through the proxy, but like you said, they would probably have a fit if you installed it on your workstation.

wait a sec! who needs a workstation... bring your own laptop, then configure a port of the cisco switch to whatever vlan, get an IP, plug in laptop. there you go.

just suggestions :)

hey, i have that! :)

my burner is old though... plex 4x scsi. anyways, with a laptop, why would you need a burner for. hdd drive prices these days are so low that you can put it on the HDD, then take it home to burn it later.

i would be seriously surprised if your workplace doesn't have a cd burner...

back from a break (errrr..nap) .... Yea, we have tons of external burners and dvd burners all over the place, but none on the workstations. There is some kind of NT thing that is setup so you cant add hardware (SUCK!)..
Since i dont have admin access, im screwed.

hey ulfwald, you do any dealings with the AT&T complex in conyers? We used to have HP do some of our admin for some systems.

<< 3 hours to go.... >>

Must be nice! I've been in for an hour and a half, so that leaves me with 12 hours to go. :(

if you have cd burners and dvd burners and what not, and they are on the domain with your workstation, you can do a quick net use command to copy files over to the computer with the burner, either pushing it over or pulling it over.

of course, the computer that has the burner has to have the burner set up and recognized already. that's the only other limitation.
