I would be interested to see the results. I have an A8-5600 that is compatible with that same card. I only really play the old point and shoots like CS:S and L4D when I have some time to kill. I am interested to see if ~$80 card would be nice little upgrade to maybe play something like COD. I am not and FPS counter like I used to be, just something that doesn't skip too much.

I've got a long list of games (all titles) pretty much I'm going to play sometime, just on lower settings.

I'm about 75% done Sleeping Dogs but will finish it, Batman games, GTA 4, Saints Row the Third, Dirt 3, Black Ops and MW3 single player, etc.

Lots of games I can test with and plan to play sometime casually. Mostly single player games I've bought but ignored over the years.

The GDDR5 cards keep their value decently... Most still go for $80+ on ebay

Cheapest used one on ebay was $25-35 more than the DDR3 cards.

Since this is mostly just to mess around with, and I had some "ebay bucks" to use, (and will be crossfired with DDR3 memory anyways) I just went with the cheaper option for now.
 
I know it's not your first goal. But a comparison of the discrete gpu against the gpu in the cpu might be interesting. Especially with a ddr3 discrete card. Can't say , I saw any data like that.
 
DDR3 vs GDDR5. The lowest common denominator will win, so if your system memory is set to 1866 and your discreet card has a memory speed of 1600, you will get 1600 MHz.
 
Perfect! You can even test how the 6670 does on memory overclocks too!

I did not try this exact setup but I never had good results with dual graphics/hybrid crossfire.

I had a laptop with I think an A8-3520M and Radeon 6470M, the crossfire did not ever work right no matter what drivers I used.
Although Unigine claimed I got ~50% more frames, it did not appear any smoother than another laptop I had with an A8-3510MX, which had the same IGP.
Worse, the dual graphic mode always corrupted textures in certain areas and produced some strange twinkling I could never correct.

I also tried to hybrid crossfire a 5450 and a 4200 IGP, and could never get it to work. The documentation was not totally clear, I think later it was noted that only a 4290 IGP could crossfire with a 5450.

Finally, I've also tried dual 5450s and it had one of the same problem as above, benchmarks claimed it was twice as fast, but the actual gaming I could not see any difference. For example the original crisis it would claim 20-30 fps but it was choppy like it was in the teens.

I have tons of AMD products so I'm not trying to troll, I'm just saying don't expect too much and don't get over invested in the setup/idea.
 
I think for the old IGPs, like the 3200-4200 it was always only possible to use crossfire with 40sps GPUs, like the HD2400 and 3400 series.

but it was never a good solution, the old am2-am3 IGPs are simply to slow and the Hyper Transport was a bottleneck for memory performance,

AMD CF for mobile platforms is not very solid right now. I had a desktop replacement laptop with HD4870 CF that worked very well, no issues at all.

For desktops things are better, you might double the performance with some luck. Can't wait to see your results.

My wife's PC is a Q6600@3.0 which is around an A10 all said and done, and indeed day-to-day performance is not much different but open up a game and it's night and day.


I'm very surprised that those 6670's hold their value so well as you're almost in HD7750 range, and a 4870 (almost twice as fast) can be had for under $50.

Some games show fair gains but almost as often as not Hybrid Crossfire is (or was at the time of that review) slower than a discrete card. Pretty hit and miss.
 
I like to tinker and play so this is more just for fun.

I will eventually build a new gaming rig I'm sure in a year or so once I miss it seriously. Maybe not though.
