new software from MS seem to be a let down

I don't like the bright colors. I loved the dark grey / black color scheme in 2010
 
I can deal with the dark gray scheme, but yeah, I would much prefer something better. I dunno, light blue/green? I'm hopeful more will become available.
 
I just installed it as I got it through MS HUP for $11. And oh dear god, it looks absolutely terrible, and it's about the only windowed program that doesn't conform to the Win 7 scheme for programs. Why even have the scheme which gives uniformity and same look-and-feel to all applications, only to have your flagship program completely disregard it???
Especially since it makes it much worse, so much white color, no borders, as if designed pre Win 3.1 as a high school project. I bought SSD 1/2 year ago and did a new OS install, I had Libre Office before that, and I think I will install it again. And if some document somehow doesn't work, I *may* use Office 2013. Or maybe I'll just uninstall it so I don't use valuable space on SSD with this worthless trash.

I don't think HUP provides Office 2010 anymore, at least I didn't see it. For $11 it's ok, since I have sometimes compatibility issues reading files from work, but I'm not giving $100 for it when there's Libre office for free.
 
Agree with all of the above. I'm on Win 8 and like Win 8, but Office 2013 is just way too plain. They need to add some color, shading, or something. There is no design, 0 color, everything looks awful. Really looks like something from 10 years ago.
 
I could use one more Office license and was planning to get Office 2013 after using the trialware, but I see the license is permanently bonded to the first PC you install on. It cannot be transferred to a new PC. Evar. 😵

Also, unlike previous versions, you can't use one Office 2013 license for both your desktop and your mobile/laptop.

I'm guessing these restrictions are intended to push people towards Office 365's subscription model, but in my case, I'm thinking Office 2010 instead of 2013.

Subscription doesn't seem too bad. $100/$150 for 5 PCs with 20GB online storage and you're always on the latest version of office.

Not bad for a family or a small business. I'll be picking it up for my family when it's available.

If the consumer preview is anything to go buy, if you change PC you can deactivate the old machine and reactivate on the new one via your microsoft account with the subscription model.

But yes, the standard retail version of office 2013 doesn't seem like a good/safe purchase.

They seriously moved the retail licensing to the OEM model?

Guess there's no reason for me not to buy OEM copies of all microsoft software moving forward, since it's the same thing but half the price.

I actually get that complaint on Office 2010 a lot at work...the colors are all really similar and it's hard to navigate the interface. Le sigh. These were the days:

I disagree with most of the above.

Whilst I am NOT comfortable with the Windows 8 tiles, I do adore the minimalistic interface of 2013. It is beautiful. You guys should give it a few days to sink in.
 
One of the biggest issue with 2013 is with Access and the fact they removed ADP support. Why is beyond belief, because Access is actually a fairly decent (and of course, not the best) tool for rapid app development against a SQL Server DB.

Shooting themselves in the foot on that one.
 
It probably took me a few weeks to absorb and accept the new Metro look of Windows 8, but I like it now. And I like the look of Office 2013 as well. The white them was a bit too much white, but light grey and dark grey look good to me. I'm liking this more than Office 2010.

Though I feel like I'm usually more flexible with change anyway. I get bored of seeing the same looking crap for too long. 😛
 
Not sure why OP wants a topic about Office 2013 deleted. Not like there was a heated discussion going on...

I can see how the design would fit into Win 8, but there's a reason why we have schemes, and for Win 7 it's as if they forgot to apply it. Also, "WHAT"S WITH THE CAPITALIZATION IN MENUS?". Started with Visual Studio 2012, and it's spreading 🙂


Though I feel like I'm usually more flexible with change anyway. I get bored of seeing the same looking crap for too long. 😛

I'm the opposite: if it's a tool that I'm using, then I don't like a change for the sake of change.
