I have not played either battlefield 2 or battlefield 2142 before but heard so much good and bad about both!. Even though 2142 is newer, i dont know if i should get that or stick with the original battlefield 2 as it got better reviews and 2142 has not!

I have a good system to support the graphics for both games with

x1900xt!
x-fi soundcard
1 gb ram
Pentium D dual core 2.8ghz
160gb hd 7200rpm
5.1 speakers

and yeah, merry Christmas every one!
 
If you like futuristic settings with Mechwarrior-type toys, go with 2142.
If you like Gulf/Iraq war/ modern combat settings, go with battlefield 2.

They are both the same engine and has similar system requirements.
2142 does have more game modes. Personally, I like Battlefield 2's theme better.
