no details is lame...laaaaaaammmmeeee...

Yes, you can collect unemployment if you get canned. It's quite common. Even when you quit, in some circumstances you can get unemployment, though all of this varies by state.

It also depends on WHY you got fired.

Good luck, but if the company disputes your claim, I feel you will be S.O.L. with this one.

From here:
The following circumstances may disqualify you from collecting unemployment benefits, depending on state law:

Quit without good cause
Fired for misconduct
Resigned because of illness (check on disability benefits)
Left to get married
Self-employed
Involved in a labor dispute
Attending School

What kind of stuff did I do?

Well, the job basically consisted of me and someone else driving arround in a big truck all day. Every now and then someone would call the 800 # and we would go do a job (usually very easy, and quick, like cleaning out garages) Durring the downtime, there were various marketing activities that we were supposed to acomplish (putting up signs, waveing to traffic, walking arround public places in uniform, doorhangers, etc.) The problem was there was no accountablility, it was (nearly) possible to completely slack off, drive arround, and not work all day, and say that we did a bunch of marketing stuff. I say nearly because we never let it get that bad. We did do work, we just kind of peppered it with bouts of extra long lunches, naps, going home and watching tv, etc.) In return we were payed $9.00/hr + Profit share (~$1-$3/hr) So it really was an excellent job...

Most all of what we did could have got us fired, but I finally got caught doing something dumb, but not nearly as bad as the other stuff:

I'm in the process of completing a move 2 houses down, arround the corner from my other house. I asked if I could use the truck to move some heavy furniture on my junch break, and was told, "No."

Why did I ask???
...Because I was partnered that day with a navigator (co worker) who is a couple sandwitches short of a picknick and whom I knew would blurt out something if I just went ahead and did it without permission.

So it just so happened, that the next day I was at my house with a different navigator on my lunch break, and I completely forgot about the previous day, and used the truck to move the dresser (I seem to remember that day's partner recomending I use the truck... interesting since it was he who ratted me out...)

The brought me in, and told me what he had told them, and I was fired...

Insubodination , plain and simpe, right?

Well, Yes. I had, however, never recieved any dicipline proir to this, the owner's sun no-calls/no-show's on a regular basis, and keeps getting "warnings"

I think they just wanted to get rid of some people because they couldn't afford to pay everyone salary's when they aren't getting alot of jobs... (probably from us slacking on marketing)

anyhoo...

you are a loser and will always be one

Ummmm read the top of the second page.....

OP, I'll hire you....to kiss my ass! Here's a quarter.

Seriously though, props to you on recognizing your failings and short comings and being willing to improve on those instead of just blaming others for your own misdeeds. That's the sign of a true man. I have a feeling if you follow through on this you'll turn out alright.

BTW, the boss's/owner's "anything" (son, wife, etc) can and will always get away with murder. That's an unwritten law in life, learn it and accept it.

This is simply untrue (or at best, horribly inaccurate). In many cases, if you are fired for cause, you CANNOT collect unemployment. I'm not saying there aren't exceptions to the rule, but this is pretty much the rule.

If you file the company you are filing against will have to take the time to fight it, often it is cheaper just to pay.

At least you are accepting responsibility for your actions. That's more than most people would do. Good luck with your future endeavors.
I don't call being a slacker and then trying to collect uninsurance responsible. He's admitting responsibility for his actions, he's not taking responsibility. Taking responsibility would be going out and looking for another job damn immediately.

You are the reason immigrants are getting jobs for less pay and doing a better job: because you're a waste of space. I'm lazy, but goddamn dude, get the fvck off your ass and DO SOMETHING.

No, the responses in this thread are encouraging the OP not to be a worthless drag on the economy and DO something other than be a slacker. While he knows this, he doesn't seem to see that just collecting unemployment is not the way to go about it.

No no no... he said "Owner's SUN"... I'm sure the owner doesn't give a damn if his sun doesn't show up on time and they have to work in the dark for a little bit.
