ok. I get your point. I'll work it out with Staples.

I did not do anything intentional, and did not even realize exactly what happened until I got home, since I did purchase some other stuff at the same time. It was only after I got home and looked closely at the receipt that I noticed that the full amount plus tax was refunded as cash.

1. OP will be banned, probably permabanned

2. The gift rebate check should have been applied AFTER she charged tax on that $39.99. It should be just like a gift card in that it applies after all taxes have been applied. At least that's how I think it should work. The rebate gift check is not a coupon where they take off $xx off $xxx and then ring up tax.
