It took 4 tech support guys to tell me that there was an "on" switch for my friends new laptop. 🙂

---------------------------------------------
We cant get the D-link 524 router to connect to a gateway M-520 laptop. everything appears to be set correctly, but the router (acessed at 192.168.0.1) shows that it is not sending or recieving any packets for wireless. we have the same router connected to desktop PC's and a cable modem. the desktops connect to the internet fine, but this laptop isnt even handshaking with the router.

The Gateway M520+ has a Broadcom 802.11g network adapter installed internally.
The router is D-Link 524 router, brandnew out of the box, and we've tried 2 new 524's with identical results.

We called D-link tech support (waited 45 mins on hold) then went through standard troubleshooting. Upon realizing it wasnt sending packets techie said that we needed to return and replace the unit. (we ordered it from newegg, so we just went and bought another to try). same thing, no packets. called tech support again (only 35 minutes this time) and they went through same stuff. eventually he said it must be a problem with the gateway adapter, problem because his main box didnt have Win XP service pack 2, or the most unlikely chance that we got 2 bad DI-524 routers in a row. So I took it to my house hooked it up to cable internet and a PC with WinXP SP2, still nothing. no packets sent or recieved. Do we have a bad adapter or are we setting something up wrong onthe router?

thanks!

Ever notice how many people on these forums will tel you to stay far far away from DLink? I'd go to Best BUy or something and pick up some other router and see if that fixes the problm (can returnit when you are done). It cudl be the router or it coudl be the card in the laptop...

at this point I'd love to have a linksys instead, but the $25 rebate on the d-link was enticing, and now that we've bought it from newegg, they'll charge 15% restocking fee for RMA returns. So I think I'm stuck with this router.
