Sorry I had to ask this in the off topic forum but a friend thought he might have burnt his cpu. Specifically, would a monitor display anything (Any bios info?) when connected to a mobo that supports an athlon xp 1700+ but without the cpu physically installed on the mobo? TIA.

I dont think so, but there should be beep codes from the mobo. (i am not sure though because I have never tried this)

I don't think it'll boot at all without a CPU. (I'm pretty sure, I've accidentally tried this)

You'll get no display. Usually you'll get a beep code. 5-beeps for AMI, don't know what Awards beep code is.

Hmm so what's a good way to test whether the mobo is busted or the cpu is busted? He said the computer powers up but nothing is shown on the monitor.
