If not overclocking 2x2gb or 4x1gb really doesn't make a difference except in upgradeability.

And for your usage I might suggest getting 3 or 4 of the 7200 drives in a raid5 array instead of you listed config.

And the video card is fine

I would second the raid 5 array (but go with a hardware card don't use the motherboards built in) as it will probably make a difference for the SQL work (how large are the datasets?) If the datasets can fit into memory then the drive choice is less important if they are multiple gigs then raid 5 makes sense. Also depending on how many users you have running queries at once a quad core may be beneficial (SQL is inherently parallel).

1) If you're not overclocking, why are you buying DDR2-800? Stock speed for RAM on your E6600 is DDR2-533. Even Kingston DDR2-667 is really cheap. 1GB sticks are the sweet spot; 2GB are notably more expensive per GB.

Skip RAID altogether unless you plan on buying a real RAID controller for a RAID5 array. For mission-critical machines, a single drive with regular backups is a better idea.

Raptors are noisy; why bother buying a 'quiet' Zalman CPU cooler? SE16s are very fast; I'd skip the Raptors altogether.

Don't buy that cooler. If you're after something quiet and efficient get a Tuniq Tower or the Zalman 9500/9700 (won't break your motherboard off 😉 ).

is the memory i got ok?

i was maybe thinking 2gb sticks?
find anything good on newegg?

also which vid card.... im going tohookup a 30" duallink lcd monitor
