I don't.

This thread no longer serves any real purpose, as such all it's going to do is turn into a pissing match. Let's just all sit round the campfire and sing Kumbyah or whatever the hell it is.

I guess it's just the whole "no budget" thing that I find absurd. Just no attempt at establishing a budget whatsoever. Might as well have a Cray delivered, or commission a BlueGene/L, or whatever it is the kids are playing with these days.

And I could understand perfectly well if he meant, "I haven't yet established a budget and would like to discuss different CPUs." No, he was implying, "unlimited budget." I mean, come on. Who in his right mind would honestly be considering Tyan server boards and dual dual-core Opterons for photo editing and light gaming? Obviously he's looking for something absurd.

In his initial post he said Gentoo compiled a little slower than he would've liked on his Athlon XP. OK, so the next logical step is a quad-core server.

And he and Chocobo get all upset that I'm not taking him seriously? Give me a break.

Who indeed... Well, it isn't dual Opty actually. But dual Xeon's seem to work well enough for me. Please STFU. If you can't tell you are crapping with posts like this, then it's no wonder you are considered a troll. Please quit posting. I wish I could remember that if you feed trolls, they grow... I'll have to work on that next time.

And you think you're being helpful? Look at that ridiculous system. It might be great for you, but do you seriously think it's reasonable for some guy to use something the size of a refrigerator to do Photoshop and a little video editing?

who are you to gauge to what level I will be doing these things? If you paid attention I am a ****** photographer.... I shoot in RAW they are big as files and I want to process them quicker. I am going to write, film, direct my own movies... if that constitues as a 'little video editing'... wow. So first of all get off your high horse. Are you jealous? What motive do you have for being an absolute asshole? What is reasonable for me is none of your damn business and to think you could judge that from reading a ****** post is absurd. Get a life you arrogant prick.

Don't assume things... it makes an ass out of you... and... well that's it just you.

Again you're lying, but I guess you deleted that first post. You initially said you wanted to work with your big RAW files and maybe do some video work later and some light gaming.

Now this photography... is it something you picked up after you dropped out of 4th grade spelling and grammar?

You'll make a good director. You're a real people person. You handle stress well. You convey your thoughts clearly.

Seriously, in my first post I tried to ask you legitimate questions and you totally cracked. If you can't handle a little sarcasm in a post you need to unplug your internet connection. This system you're talking about is a joke. You would spend thousands on something much more suited to be a webserver or the back end of a database than a legitimate workstation.

If you're really serious about this stuff and have the money, there are very good places to get systems that beat the hell out of anything you're going to put together on NewEgg for video editing. Call Avid. Call Matrox. Call Pinnacle. There's stuff that can do multiple streams of HD video in real time. You don't just pour money into random server equipment.
