I really don't think there is anything that high(it seems to go against many physics principals too ;))....why do you need that much excursion???

There would be no problem with high pressures on both sides of the cone, seeing as how the forces would add to 0.

They most likely do exist so the next question is if these were arranged in a fashion that puts high pressure on both sides of the cone will there be problems at lower frequencies and high input levels? Thermal problems and mechanical stress problems with the cone and suspension attachment points perhaps?

The ideal system will use a voice coil and elektromagnat instead of a perm mag motor. Amplifiers will power both sides of the motor and a 86,000 mips controller will intervene as movement tracking deviates from program material, etc.

Anyone who really wanted feedback with that level of detail, would know that there are (with all due respect to ATOT) obviously better places to ask. Sounds like someone read a speaker design book and wanted to wank knowledge on AT.

90mm from a 10 inch.... sounds like you want as much SPL as possible from a small box.... got voice coil diameter and power? ;)

If the upper limit of the passband is not too high, you can build a "well" and mount multiple low-depth drivers on the side of it. Imagine a rectangular-section Sonotube, then visualize holes being drilled into one side with drivers mounted in them.

If a 10" square is all you the frontal area you have, the required cross-sectional area of the enclosure will likely cause noticeable "port" noise.

I can't be any more specific than that unless I have a better idea of the space the system will be fitting into.

you are better off getting an 18" cone like the Avalanche one used often in Infinite Baffle solutions. check out avsforum for more links and data. I think this puppy gets ±2" excursion but i could be wrong.

High Excursion leads to high distortion in most cases. The more the cone is far away from the voice coil, the less control is exerted and the woofer cone is allowed to deviate causing distortion. Perhaps the second harmonic isnt too bad, but a lot of third harmonic would be terrible sounding.

I don't think he has that much width, otherwise he wouldn't specify such a small woofer size.

Yeah, I was trying to imply that so much excursion in only a 10" cone is almost ludicris.

it would probably be better to get 2 10" cones and use them in a push-pull type box.
