I believe Hitatchi drives are former IBM drives (they bought the rights). So, doesn't surprise me that they are failing.

had a hard drive protection problem with my new t41 from ibm out of the box. the protection system kept telling me that there was too much movement, even though the computer was stationary on a desk. didn't take much to figure out that it was glitching. i disabled it the first day i owned it.

i reason that no other manufacturer needs to have a hard drive protection system so do i really need it? haven't had a problem since i d/c it.

and i do love that notebook...

Just trying to inform folks of a potential problem. At least it is not another ebay, paypal, citi, <fill in the blank>, warning about a scam email.

Then do it in Off-Topic, you know, the forum that exists for things that aren't on topic. It's kind of you to think of other people, but if someone posted a consumer alert everytime one was released, we'd have to search to find the actual deals on this forum.

I can't understand why someone who has been here for 2 + years and has >500 posts, still can't figure out that there is a Brag & Moan section and an Off Topic section that is perfect for posting something like this, but insists on clogin the "Hot Deals" with specificly Not Hot: stuff (as refrenced by the title).

Maybe we need a ~~~~ Warnings and Consumer Alerts ~~~~ sticky thread like Brag and Moan and rebate tracking....

Just an idea to keep good but in this case Completely OFF TOPIC posts out of the Hot Deal sections.
