Delayed Write Failure on Firewire HD?

I have a fairly old Maxtor FireWire enclosure which I put a regular old hard drive inside of...

I've been trying to copy a bunch of files to it but in the middle of the transfer it will show "Delayed Write Failure" and the hard drive will disappear from My Computer.

My board is a DFI Lanparty NF3 250Gb and I'm running WinXP SP1.

Any suggestions? I really need the FireWire functionality. Thanks.

Hi, Delayed write was a great idea, but was dangerous with older systems. Your problem sounds like a software incompatibility. The quickest way out would be to turn Delayed Write off. Luck, Jim

right - except there is no such thing as "Delayed Write" to turn off. To turn it off you turn off Write Caching, and to do that you select that drive in My Computer, right click for PROPERTIES, then select the POLICIES tab and you have two check boxes. Turn off PERFORMANCE and turn QUICK DISCONNECT on. THat is how you turn off Write Caching which causes the Delayed Write error.
