I'm sure that this is a common scenario but I receive silence when I ask it.
I am using both Vista-32 and XP Pro-32.
A 1-terabyte internal hdd (Samsung) in an external enclosure used for archival purposes... i powered off the computer by hibernate and turned off the external enclosure after having saved a file to it. i forgot to turn on the peripheral when i re-powered the computer from hibernate.
windows popup announced:
"UNABLE TO SAVE THE FILE. I:\$MFT -- DELAYED WRITE FAILED -- THE DATA HAS BEEN LOST -- TRY TO SAVE THIS FILE ELSEWHERE." i assume that the "file" that this system message alludes to is the file that i (thought i had) saved before i hibernated; if instead is meant a system file then how can i possibly save "it" elsewhere?
But the truly disheartening part is that the drive ** can no longer be accessed ** -- the popup:
"I:\ IS NOT ACCESSIBLE. THE FILE OR DIRECTORY IS CORRUPTED AND UNREADABLE"
what exactly has been corrupted? can i fix the corrupted system file (it's my understanding that FAT32 and NTFS keep 2 copies of [??] bootfile in the first [and second?]) sector; if not then what can i do to recover the data?
