Delayed Write Failed?

might be memory as well... most of the time I have seen this piticular message it is when there is a mismatch in network speed AKA one PC is on auto negtiate and the other is hard set to something.

Nothing out of the ordinary. It does sometimes have this occasional "whine" but it only lasts for about a second, and only happens every so often. It's been making that "whine" for months.

Other than that, nothing out of the ordinary.

Okay, its starting to make weird little hisses. Really rapid sounding hisses. Very faint though. You have to listen close. I'm going to start backing up important stuff.

I have my Hitatchi DeskStar hooked up to my laptop through a USB 2.0 cable. And I tried running a SMART utility on the drive... but it said it couldn't be found. What is happening? Any explanations? It just started doing this today.

What does your event log show when this happens? There should be entries in there to clarify what is going on.

That doesn't clarify anything to me 🙁 It says HardDisk1... does that mean my main hard disk or the one I have hooked up to my USB drive?

Well, it tells you the disk, and if you'd like, run MPS Reports (see my .sig) and send me the resulting .cab file, and I'll run evlog.exe against it to see if I can tell you any more. But yes, essentially it's saying D: disk has a problem.

I was copying from my C:\ to my F:\. However, when I moved stuff from my F:\ to my C:\ (to back it up), i encountered zero problems.

And when you try different cabling, and different USB ports (do you have any add-in USB cards with extra USB ports you could try?) Do you have any USB hubs you could eliminate?

Oh, and there are massive errors on the DVD D: drive too - eliminate that and see if those '51's go away. That's the second graphic you posted.

Here are the errors from what you mentioned above (the first graphic)

I moved everything off of the drive, formatted it, and ran CHKDSK and it came back negative for errors. It seems to be working alright now.

Well, I think its working A-OK now... at least it appears to be! Its still doing the same little "whine" noise that it does on occassion, but its been doing that as far as I can remember.

Thanks for all of your help dclive!!!! 🙂
