"Delayed Write Failed" Hot swap / Removable Hard drive & Win2K SP2.... How do I get it to work?

I bought the hot swap / removable hard drive tray from Computer Geeks and installed a hard drive in it for backups. It says that I can hot swap and all I need to do is set the BIOS to auto. Well that's all good and fine but when I remove the drive it gives me an error basically stating that it wasn't done writing to the disk (that was over 8 hours after the backup was done). Error message was "Delayed Write Failed". Well it appears that Win2K has some sort of disk caching or something like that running.

How do I get this all to work without tuning off my computer and without it giving me an error?

I've tried to disable the device and this seems to work and the drive letter goes away but I have two difference drives that I want to do this with and it's just not working.

BTW I'm running SP2.

I've looked everywhere I could. I hope someone can help me out. I just switched to this from a tape drive because 15GB of backup space was not enough and I didn't want to go to more than one tape per backup.

Thanks,
Carl

Go into device manager and select the drive and bring up properties. Under properties/Disk Properties turn off 'Write Cache enabled'. That should do it for you.

If I remember right I looked there and the option was greyed out. I'll double check.

Assuming that it is indeed greyed out what else could I look for or try.

Thanks,
Carl
