Delay when opening files or right clicking on files

So, I have a 4 to 5 second delay when I open files or right click on files. It takes that long to open the program (even Notepad), or to bring up the context menu.

Any suggestions? I've scanned for spyware and viruses.

Run diags to check if your hard drive is failing or something. How long has this been happening for?

Probably 2 or 3 months. I've run just about everything I can think of.

Does this happen EVERY time you do anything? or just every now and then? I had a problem like this with my previous computer, except the pauses would happen every now and then (i'd see many of them per session, but it's not like everytime i opened anything, it caused it).

But if it's more consistent in your case, you might have picked up some virus/spyware/whatever process that's causing it to slow down.

Could you have an anti-virus that is set to scan files each time they're accessed? Wouldn't bet money on it, but maybe worth a glance.

To answer all the questions in one reply:

-Happens everytime I open/right click on a file. However, if I right click on one file, wait for it to come up, and then right click on another file -> no delay.
-I just uninstalled Symantec and restarted.. same issue.
-No Dr. Divx, and my system restore doesn't work.. always fails, for some reason.
