I love Chipotle but never had del Taco. Are they predominantly in the west? I haven't had Chipotle in over two years because...My favorite burrito: Tortilla, rice, pinto beans, fajita vegetables, chicken, hot salsa, corn salsa, cheese, sour cream, and lettuce = 1095 calories!!!.

This thread makes me sad... very very sad. Del Taco is at the bottom of the barrel, like Taco Bell. Chipotle is fantastic wrapped in awesome. How anybody can not enjoy it is beyond me, but more power to ya. It's indeed quite expensive and I wish I didn't love it so much, but I can't control it. Chipotle is fantastic and I usually have it once a week at least.

No one should have to learn to make their food flavorful. If you have to do that then the food is already lacking.
Disagree. That's the nature of how the restaurant works. It's like subway. You could easily make a horrible sandwich at subway... or you can make a totally delicious one. It depends on what you ask for. I think these kind of places require a bit of know how.

If you want a good premade burrito then go to another place. Chipotle isn't for you.

Comparing Del Taco and Chipotle is like comparing a Kia to a Lexus.

Chipotle makes delicious Americanized Mexican food, although it's pretty expensive as far as fast food goes. Del Taco makes organic matter whose only quality is caloric content, but it's really inexpensive.

They both have their place, although I won't personally touch Del Taco unless I'm absolutely emaciated.

looks like del taco makes tex mex and some long john silvers stuff. chipotle makes southwestern.

i'd rather eat at taco cabana.

edit: wtf del taco has burger too?

Chipotle is a place that literally has food sitting in trays like a school cafeteria, an order from DT will almost always be more freshy prepared.
where is del taco storing it's food before you order it?

I fully understand that taste is, well, a matter of taste. But I really don't understand the extreme hate towards certain foods/restaurants.

Is Papa Johns (just picking a random pizza chain) the best pizza? Of course not, but I'd imagine most people if they were honest would classify it as a tasty food item. It may not be the best pizza but it can still be a yummy thing to eat.

Same thing with Chipotle. Is it the best burrito? Of course not, but as a food item, it can be really good.

Oh, and Chicken fajitas with rich and no beans, the pico and corn salsa, cheese and lettuce (and if I'm feeling like spending extra, gauc) is quite possibly my favorite food item from any fast/semi-fast food place

dude. just get the burrito bowl and cut out nearly half of those calories (it's all in that tortilla. I don't get it).

and also ditch the sour cream. that stuff is disgusting and it will kill you.

Also got some hole in the wall recommendations for Orange County...

Super Pollo (Newport)
Fiesta Grill (Huntington)
Albert Tacos (Mission Viejo)
King Taco (technically LA and a chain, but still delicious)

Half? There's a lot of calories in the tortilla (200-300 last I checked) but that's hardly half. Now if you cut out the sour cream then you might be getting there. I'm also surprised at how much sodium is in their rice. For my linear programming project I created a program where you put in nutrition/dietary restrictions or goals and it'd create a burrito for you. What we found was that if you felt like limiting your sodium intake at all it would never give you rice. Was pretty interesting.

Thats pretty much every chain restaurant. I was surprised at how much salt people put in once they started giving out the nutritional value. I think people worry way too much about calories (should be taken in account though) and not worry at all about sodium content.

Baja Fresh pwns both of them. Although Chipotle is good for a cheapass, fast burrito. Del Taco = teh lulz.

I'm joining this camp. Del Taco > Chipotle. Baja Fresh > both. Shitty roach coach mexican food with actual roaches > Taco Bell.

Chipotle is shitty rice filled bullshit. I'm also annoyed you can't apply your own sauce. Needs to be a sauce bar to win.

While not as nice as a do-it-yourself, you can ask for as much or as little of as many of their salsas as you want for no charge

A sauce bar there would be fail, they have absolutely horrible hot sauce. Whoever said in this thread I liked Ketchup, as much as I dislike it, it would be a step up to what they offer for "sauces"

If ya'll are in OC try a place in Costa Mesa called Taco Mesa. Its really good americanized mexican food, tons of taste, not a ton of grease, freshly made.

Meh, Taco Mesa is decent, but for my money The Taco Factory on Newport in Tustin is better.

I guess its cuz I needed to speak espanol to actually order, let alone get extra salsa. It was kinda odd - typically the tex/mex/southwest places are higher end around here for some reason and not staffed by locals.

K, you're gonna have to explain what you mean by "sauce" now, and what type of "sauce" you actually expect to see at a "mexi-esque" restaurant.

...and I do like Baja Fresh more than Chipotle, it's just that they are poorly exposed, (I've seen a few shut down, actually) and more expensive.

Chiptole's salsas are just fine--pretty much the choices you expect from such a place: verde, roso, pico di gallo...I really don't know what else you people are expecting, lol. They also stock the tobasco chipotle sauce, which is damn tasty.

Their guac is awesome, but one can make their own, much better, and far cheaper.

I like Chipotle well enough, but I haven't been there in ages due to them putting cilantro in the rice at the ones around here. I fucking HATE cilantro. I don't care if someone else likes it, that's fine, everyone has different tastes, but to not have an option for rice without cilantro = I'm not going back there.

Haven't been to Del Taco in forever, but I moved from Cali a long time ago, I visited last year and didn't get to make it to one. did get to hit the in and out burger though <3

Del Taco is fast food. Its good, if you like fast food..
Everyone hates on their burgers, but they arent that bad. My favorite item however is the shredded beef burrito.. Very tasty.

Chipotle's whole thing is their "food with integrety" meme
See here:

http://www.chipotle.com/en-US/fwi/fwi.aspx

I like them ok, but they are kinda pricey for what you get. I mean they roll you a nice hogs leg burrito, but its all rice n beans. If you have them leave the "filling" out, you get a flacid burrito.
Go double meat sure, but then again you are looking at like $10+ with a drink. Got to keep in mind though you are paying for "food with integrety". If you arent into the whole organic thing, and the price premium that goes with it, its probibly not for you.

It also seems to have a starbucks-ey apple yuppie vibe to it which is why I think so many pepople hate it ( other than the food not being to their taste).

Baja fresh made me sick as hell the only time I have ever been there.. They seem to be a common fixture in all the strip malls around here.

Good lord man. May I suggest not getting the Shit Burrito? I can't imagine on what planet Taco Bell is better than Chipotle, but to each their own.
