defragmenting question in NT

At work, I run NT4 sp4. Unfortunately, I do not have administrative privelages over the machine. The option to degfragment is not available from the tools screen under C drive properties. Is there another program I can use to defragment, or a way to get it enabled w/o going threw a pile of paperwork that would be getting administrative privelages on my machine?

I shift massive data files back and forth off of network drives, FWIW

NT4 didn't ship with a defragmenter, you'll need to order something like Diskeeper if you want to defrag your filesystems.

And you would still likely need admin rights.

If it's listed there it's possible that "they" installed a defrag utility on the box, perhaps you could get one of "them" to defrag it for you.

NT was a really great OS for a long time, the only real complaint that I had with it was that many applications didnt work under it (which was really more a fault of the appication programmers and not microsoft). At least your not stuck with Windows 95!

You could have 'them' schedule it to defrag nightly or weekly or something, then you don't admin rights to run it.

I severely dislike XP compared to NT 4, although Win2K is almost a happy medium.
