defragger is suck

why does the windows defragger always hang my system? I even dl'ed powerdefrag, and the defragger hung then too. Is there anything out there that actually works?

Is it hanging (freezing) or is it just looping? If it's aborting and recycling then something in the background is running. Doing a defrag in DOS can often be the silver bullet.

what os are you using? if you are on win9x machine i highly suggest downloading NU2.1K demo... nothing beast the speedisk IMO 🙂

Does your defrag consistently hang at the same time, like 15 minutes? It could be your power management kicking in. It could be a setting in your Control Panel or your BIOS. Not sure if defrag.exe runs in Dos, but can you create a Boot Disk from Win98 by going to Start, Settings, Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs, StartUp Disk tab, Create Disk.

I hope this helps.

It'll execute at the MS-Dos prompt (within Windows), but it's not going to do anything for you except save a little GUI. Defrag will not execute from a DOS startup unless the OS is DOS. Sorry for the goose chase.

you should check to make sure winamp agent i
sn't running...that's what screwed up my defrag before. it would loop and loop and loop and loop and loop and loop...*sigh*.

you can disable it through the properties window in winamp

the defragger doesn't even start. the second the defrag screen comes up, it freezes - there isn't any looping going or anything like that.
