Defrag Software Without a Service?

I was wondering if anyone has heard of or uses a Disk Defragmentation software package that does not require a windows service to be installed.

I dont want anything running in the background, I dont want it to monitor disk usage, I don't want a scheduler. I just want a Defrag program I can manually run when I want to.

I also want it to defrag the disk and move all of the data to the top of the disk, I tried Diskeeper and it dosent actually arrange files on the disk it will only defragment. I need something like norton speed disk that defrags and moves all files to the top of the disk. But something that doesn't install all sorts of background services...

I kinda wish I could just get norton speed disk by itself.... I dont want all of the system works stuff..
 
Contig + Power Defragmenter GUI

You'll need to download both and extract both EXEs into the same folder. Then simply run Power Defragmenter GUI.exe and defrag away.

Dirms and the Dirms GUI are another good alternative.

Either way, there's nothing to install or no service to run. Just extract the files and go.

The issue with the Windows built in one is that it does not rearrange files to the top of the disk.


EDIT Hmmm, it seems contig only defrags and does not move files to the top of the disk...
 
DK only does that in scheduled mode. It could be run "manually" by setting a one-time schedule a minute in the future. O&O has four selectable defrag types without that limitation and its service uses <1500K.
 
I actually found one, System Mechanic 6, I downloaded the trial, It installs no services, It does have a memory resident program that runs on start up but I went into msconfig and turned it off and the program still runs fine, so It was probably a scheduler of sorts...

The defrag does a decent job, it seems to need to be run twice sometimes and it dosent completely pack all the data together even tho it says thats what it does.

Its the best I found so far...
