I cant defrag it seems like now, It stays at 0%, I have defragged a lot before, but it seems like it stays at 0% for 10-20 minutes , and I just quit, the hard drive is working though ( I can hear it). I also havent defragged in 125 days though, anyone know what the probelm is and how to fix it? THanks.

Try booting into safe mode and then running defrag. In this way you are going to be sure that no programs are running in the background that may cause it to start again and again.

make sure to disable all antivirus progs as well as anything else that might write to the hd periodically, if you have done this, then go into safe mode and defrag like suggested. otherwise, as a last resort, use a 3rd party prog to do it.

I had a problem defragging before. It would hang and hang. I would then do the control-alt-delete and end task everything except for Systray and Explorer and it worked fine after that.

I also downloaded Vopt99 and bar none it's the best defragger i've ever used. Man, the default Win defragger sucks donkey balls and Norton Speedisk didn't seem that much faster either.

When I first got my cable modem the @home software running in the background would hang up my defrag. CTRL ALT DEL and End Task on anything that does not need to be there.
