Defrag doesn't work because chkdsk is scheduled

I'm running XP pro. I try to defrag my boot drive but it says chkdsk is scheduled to run. So I run chkdsk on the boot drive and everything checks out okay. But when I try to run defrag again it says the same thing, chkdsk is scheduled.

If anyone has any ideas of how to fix this i'd appreciate it.

Maybe you need to look at Scheduled Tasks to see whether it shows that chkdsk is scheduled to run. To open Scheduled Tasks, go to Start, All Programs, Accessories, System Tools, and select Scheduled Tasks. If chkdsk appears there, disable it from being a scheduled task and try running Defrag.

checked that, there aren't any events scheduled.

I tried running chkdsk on a different drive that doesn't have anything installed on it. During 'phase 4' (not sure what it is) I tried defragging my boot drive. Oddly enough it worked. I'll have to wait and see if I can still defrag when chkdsk isn't running.
