seems that star wars deflector shields might be possible

the only problem is that they work both ways and might even block any sensory perception at least those based on electromagnetic radiation.

Problem is the cosmic background radiation gets doppler shifted to gamma before reaching light speed... Gamma not blocked by shield equals one extra crispy spaceship and crew.

If it's one thing I wonder about sci-fi technologies becoming reality besides FTL, it's inertial dampeners. What's the point of going fast if you end up like a bug on a windshield?
