Define "Smart"

I would define smart as the ability to

1) retain information

2) readily access that information

3) combine what you've learned to solve the problems you encounter

"smart" does not necessarily mean the same thing as "sharp" when applied to someone's mental capability imo.

I think that's a pretty good definition. The people I know who are good at stuff & can fly through things remember their stuff & can use it. I have a friend who does improv organ & it's absolutely amazing watching him work...he can make up a song about whatever you want on the spot & it sounds like a classic musician is singing & playing it. But he knows the instrument so well & knows the various genres & popular songs so well that he can just meld it all together on the fly, whereas my brain doesn't even work that fast in adrenaline-panic mode lol. One of my friends is a chef & can do that with food...he'll go through the pantry & fridge when he visits & whip up some amazing creation that is just epic, whereas I pretty much have to follow recipes to the T to be successful.
