Define overkill...

Personally, I don't believe in overkill, but my wallet sadly disagrees. Am looking to construct a new system from scratch. Currently have the Cooler Master Silent Pro 850-watt as my power supply, but as I said, am trying to save money where at all possible without sacrificing performance/stability.

Current proposed rig is:
- 2.8GHz Intel i7-860 (potentially OC'd to between 3.3-3.5GHz)
- Radeon 5850 if they're ever again in stock (if not, 5770) with the intent of XFiring within 6 months time with the core OC'd 75-100MHz
- 8GB DDR3 1600 RAM
- 1x 500GB HD, 1x DVD-RW
- 1x 120mm, 3x 200mm fans, plus the Corsair Hydro H50 CPU cooler

Overall, it's a pretty spartan rig, and that's the point. I have a second computer I use for mundane tasks, so my main focus is pure FPS bliss. Can I afford to save $50 and drop down to a 700-watt PSU?

what's wrong with your current PSU?

I don't have one. As of right now, I have my MacBook for daily tasks, and an Xbox 360 Elite for games. This system is from scratch.

EDIT:
What's the noise difference between the Antec and the Cooler Master? I was going with the CM mostly because it's going into a CM case (HAF 922) and the Silent Pros are advertised as being, well, more silent.

you want quiet? Try the Seasonic X-775 which doesn't even spin the fan a lot of the time because it doesn't need to but it costs a lot more, $199.

TPN-750 all the way. It's plenty quiet unless you're just absolutely anal about noise
