What stage is that in where you dont need yellow lights?

Looks like a blank silicon wafer to me, so there'd be no reason to use yellow lights at that point. The yellow light is only for lithography steps, where you want to avoid exposing the photoresist.

Also judging from the size of the wafer (4 inch) and the part of the room you can see, I very much doubt he's actually in a fab. Probably some university.
