no, his (assumed) blind devotion to one side of this debate has left him unprepared to properly criticize the legitimate faults of his competitor, acknowledge the very real positives of the competitor, and has resulted in a simple, non-descriptive ad-hominem attack on the competitor.

It's like die-hard sports fans. They are the fucking worst (I should know, b/c I'm frequently guilty of such asinine devotion-inspired debate).
;)

Now that is the definition I was looking for thanks :)

Fanboys fail to consider bang for the buck when buying products, especially electronics. Fanboys often buy simply for the perceived cachet of owning a product.

You can always add Apple or some other brand name in front of fanboy to be more precise about said fanboys particular love. And for some reason I always equated fanboi (instead of fanboy) with gay or Asian.

Love the gay or asian comment, very amusing, I don't consider bang for buck I have to say, purely because I'm one of those people that just buys what I consider to be the best product in class (i.e. performance or whatever) regardless of price, I.e. I chose Xeons over i7's regardless of the price, because the performance is better to have two CPU's in certain situations.

Fanboy is a word invented by idiots on the internet who dislike others for using/defending an item that is not mainstream or overly popular.

I personally don't really like apple, mostly because of their pricing, but their hardware and software can do some pretty cool stuff.

Ok, welcome to the thread, did you know you were mentioned earlier in the thread? :)

Search on the user ""RavenSEAL" in the console gaming forums and you will have your definition.

Yea, i saw that. I tend to ignore that dude whenever possible, he is an uber idiot at times.

Lol fair enough :) I agree that fanboy is a stupid phrase, but I was curious to know what everyone thought it meant, as I've never seen a definition for it.

It really isn't a real word, just more stupid shit to come out of the internet because since it is the internet, people don't respect other's opinions and/or believes, mostly because they know they can't get their shit beat through an ethernet cable.

True, but as some people use it, it obviously has a conceptual definition behind it and that's what I was curious about

Hey Guys,

I recently was called an Apple Fan boy on these forums, because I aserted a preference for one operating system over others, how would you define fan boy?

Thanks in advance.

Mike

well to be fair the only person who would disagree with me about your fanboyism, if even that, is you.

but then again, part of the definition of a fanboy is denial.

It's just a term idiots and losers throw around to make themselves feel superior.

Don't worry about it and don't let it bother you.

I agree, I think the fact that apples software is designed to run on specific hardware is a plus, but conversely this advantage leads to incompatibility issues, so it's a plus and minus.

The trouble with the software end is the lack of end users. Since the user base for macs are so much smaller than windows, for a lot of software producers, it just doesn't pay to write for mac or linux. they just aren't going to sell enough to justify the cost of porting to those platforms. There are work arounds, (wine for linux, for example), but they can be a pain in the ass if you're willing to take the time to do it.
