I had to go to this site:
http://en.defiance-wiki.com/wiki/Defiance_Wiki
I read the Races and the Timeline. I highly suggest it.
The site is slow and occasionally says there is an error. Just go back and click again. I don't see how they can put all this info into the show even over the course of a season.

Thanks... That's actually what I read even though I misspoke saying Wikipedia. 🙂

Reading the backstory makes the show start to make sense.

Did you think anything was a spoiler?

i give it 2 out of 5.

no back story on anything, like why so many races of aliens, who they are, who the aliens were at the end. i think it had potential but was very poorly executed.

You referred to the walking dead comics in the reply but seriously anything in the video game / books not covered in the show should be considered them as this thread is about the show.

I am trying to figure out why people feel the need to have a wiki site on every show as the writers should explain it in the actual show otherwise they did a bad job like they did with this first episode with the lack of a lot of basic information.

People really need to just watch the show for a bit and if they don't actual explain things in the first few episodes then that's why a lot of shows suffer.

Actually due to the nature of this show and what they decided to do in the first two episodes I found my enjoyment of the show doubled by finding out basic facts about the history.

Instead of just seeing the Votan ships appear in the flashback you find out what happened to their homeworlds and how they managed to leave them. It also showed that they left their solar system in stasis 5000 years ago so they didn't expect to find intelligent life on Earth.

That's nice but lets keep the thread about the actual show and not information they have not talked about yet as those are spoilers we don't need here without the tags.

As far as I remember the show only showed them as invaders because of some giant war that eventually ended in a peace pact so lets keep it there.

The only thing that may reveal it is the video game and that's like if the walking dead video games showed people killed off before the actual show showed it.

Most of the complaints I have seen about the show in other sites and here is because of this information and that's needed to be shown sooner then later or it will suffer because of it.

It wasn't horrible by any means. But it seems like another one of those high budget Sci-Fi shows that get cancelled after 4 episodes.

Hopefully at least a season as they have tossed a ton of money at it and the game so I would assume if one lacks support and dies the other will too.

Plus since warehouse 13 will be after it that might help.

fyi the idea, as stated on Syfy.com that you are supposed to read the backstory online. Everything ends before the show actually begins, btw.
This is part of how syfy is writing the show. They want to drive website traffic and sell the game.

Its sort of like reading how Hobbits ended up in the Shire. The info gives you backstory. In fact consider it like the beginning of The Hobbit movie, if you have seen it you know what I mean.

If they expect the average viewer to know they are supposed to be reading the information based on the website, can't recall the last time I went to syfy.com, and play the game they are in for some issues.

If it's not in the show it's a spoiler just like all the other shows out there with information already out before it's revealed in the tv show such as the various ones we have had going.

It's fine if you want to find more backstory but keep the topic on the actual show or bad things happen in these types of threads.

This is pretty much the first time I have seen this but I am guessing its part of the game tie and to make money off the show by traffic.

Sorry if you didn't want to see that, but because Syfy has already released the info I felt it belonged in the same category as having been "aired"

I can see a pc game thread going on if it gets big enough and have the information but it didn't look interesting enough to buy it as it's a shooter rpg + based on a tv show so not a huge interest there for me.

The premiere episode was terribly predictable and none of the alien races seemed very interesting except for the Votan. The only saving grace for me is that my wife, who has never been a fan of sci-fi shows, actually showed some interest due to its connection with the show Face Off. If she ends up liking it I'll watch it with her purely out of amazement that my wife likes a sci-fi show.

Episode 2 tonight. :awe:

Looks they had to reuse an "Engineer" from Prometheus for the 1st episode.

Just watched the first episode and saw no reason why you had to use wiki. You wanted to know more now instead of when they show would explain things, that is fine but it certainly wasn't needed. I didn't find much complicated other than the fact there are multiple alien species and you really aren't told why, yet. Otherwise it was standard flair stuff.

I'll watch it and see where it goes. Not like I have much of a choice for scifi anyways.

the show is worse than shows they have already canceled. When pilot sucks, what can you expect? At least alphas, and SGU had decent pilot episodes; and they have went downhill slowly. This one promises to be generic suck show from the start.

the Votan encompasses all eight of the alien races.....

I thought SGU is one of those rare shows that improve as time went on... 0.0

I kept hearing people here saying how they are sad the show is canceled since it was getting good or something.

Saw a repeat of the premiere on the weekend. I liked it. Unfortunately, I'm watching Revolution and Hawaii-Five-O on Mondays at 10pm. I'll try to catch repeats. The CGI is cheap, but works for this series.
